3rd Gen Newbie
Hey guys I just bought an 89 T/A GTA with only 58,xxx KMs.
The car is in beautiful condition and has whatever wear and tear that could be expected of a 20 something year old car..
it does look like that it was either stored or covered for the most part. I only pick it up later this week so I'll post some pics at that time.
It has the L98, is there anything I should keep a look out for or is it all just routine maintenance?
The antenna doesn't retract, the hood needs new shocks and the hatch might need new shocks too because it closes soon after you pop it open from the dash..
Would my local GM parts department have all of the parts that I need?
TIA.

Hey, When I bought my 1989 GTA i had all the same problems...The shocks for the hatch and hood were available at the dealer, but cost half the price from Napa. The antenna was from the dealer and was not a direct fit..we had to costomize it a bit but works great. So far I have had no problems major problems with my L98. Starter and alternator were replaced but thats life at 20+ years...

new hood shocks are $35 each at Napa. Much better than dealing with the dealership which told me $60 each.

Welcome. Good score on the GTA. Not too many out there with that few miles. Check out Modern Day Muscle, http://www.moderndaymuscle.com/ (aka perrypam on eBay). They have factory antenna repair parts. Best to figure out exactly what the issue is with the antenna, whether its the motor or just the toothed line inside the antenna. I am pretty sure a variety of antenna parts interchange through the GM cars of that vintage. Late 80s early 90's Bonneville was mentioned to me as a direct interchange, but I can't say for sure. If you need any interior parts, drop me a line. I likely have it.

Here's the bird! I drove it home this past Saturday and finally got around to snapping some photos today while this crazy weather wasn't acting so crazy!
The car isn't exactly perfect, it needs some things here and there but the body, powertrain and interior are all in great shape!
I had Wally from Niagara Appraisal Services over today to make out the appraisal for the Ministry of Transportation
...
Once I find the time, I can go ahead and get the ownership switched over to my name and get some plates in the mail so I can hit the road "Trans Am style"
I look forward to maintaining, restoring and keeping this car. It's a lot of fun to drive.

yeah I guess you can't miss me in that bright red lol
I drive a lot mostly on the west mountain because I live in Ancaster but I go around town sometimes just for the heck of it,
I'll look into the events there so maybe you'll see me like once or twice..

Re: 3rd Gen Newbie
update:
I'm lovin' the 3rd gen!
I bought like a tarp garage to keep it out of the sun and the elements.
I had all of the fluids changed... I've also fixed some things here and there (nothing major) but it still needs some things you know...
I get compliments on it all the time!
