Engine swap update...
I know this is the wrong board, but I think some of the Canadian cars are a bit different from the american ones.
I have this Haynes manual, it sucks. The electrical diagrams are all wrong(or american) and this is a canadian car. So I got the engine and the tranny out and now I'm fighting with the wiring harness.
Update: TPI out, carbed 350 going in.
I'm selling the TPI so I can't just hack it up and get rid of it.
Has anybody here have had experience that I'm going through cause the wiring harness is pissing me off. What should I keep:
-water temp.
-oil press.
-stock gauges( what a pain)
- no a/c or heat fan, it got ripped out.
- elec. cooling fan
what else am I going to need off of that wiring harness.
Moderator: Don't close me down, I'm pulling my hair out and going bald over this.
Dave
PS what sucks is when you've only had the car 3 summers, babied it, never took it to the track, supposedly had a top of the line clutch installed after I bought it, come to find out I know need another clutch.

Sorry man! I already have a buyer lined up. He's taking it for a $1000 bucks. I've been working on this engine going in for about 8-9 years now. It was in my fathers car. Instant throttle response. I found that with the TPI there was always a delay of some kind.

It's originally a 300hp 350ci with higher comp. pistons. A mean cam and some ported out "882" heads. Edelbrock intake, holley 750DP. Randy's Performance in Kemptville tells me the combo with headers should get me well over 400HP.
That'll be sweet. But I tell ya. Going from EFI to carb, is alot hard than I thought. I'm racking my brain on how to still use the stock guages without the computer or wiring harness.
A healthy dose of NOS could very well be on the way too, if the money doesn't run out.

Randy knows his cars, but I hope you have patience. This summer my car sat there for 3 weeks before he came to tell me it was just the MAF.

Ahhh, the things it takes to have toys eh?
There's always something wrong. Whats wrong with it?
I had to pick up a new flywheel because the old one won't bolt up to the new engine.

Keep your eyes open....some of my pushrods may have landed in South Mountain
Randy said he has never seen anything like it. You guys should see what chromemoly looks like when it fractures. I hate this ****ing car

No, I just bent most of the pushrods and a few valves. One of the pushrods broke into 3 pieces and was found in the lifter valley. Randy's going to fix it because i'm sick of looking at the piece of ****. Randy honestly said he's never seen anything like it. He can't figure out why it happened either. It WAS running pretty good. I have a box of chromemoly pushrods that looks like metal spaghetti. It looks like modern art.

How the hell could chromemoly get mangled like that. The only thing I can think of is maybe the rockers weren't tightened down enough when the pushrods were put in, but then why would it run fine for so long.
Too friggin weird.
Too friggin weird.
I have a friend that had a 74 Dodge Charger with a 383. He had the same problem. He went out and bought a set of heavy duty pushrods and these things were thick, about twice the size of a chevy pushrod. He bent those as well. I'll see if i can find out what the problem he was having with his car. It might be the same issue that your motor has.

Dave, did you get that pic I sent you? The rockers where adjusted properly and the push rods are stock diameter. It's Randy's problem now, I just have to pay for it
I have zero compression in cylinder 1 so I probably bent a valve or two(or 16). I don't even want to think about it.

Lol, it could have been. I went and checked out the mess last night(Friday). I have a bunch of smashed and bent valves. The rockers beat the crap out of the valve tips. They look like they melted. The neat thing is that the rocker arms don't have a scratch on them.

The cam's fine. It's pretty hard to gall a roller cam anyway's. I don't give a **** if I have to tunnel through 5 feet of snow, I'm going to drive this thing this year

Well the LG4 car is a piece of ****. I wouldn't be caught dead driving it
I took all of the candy off the Z28 and put it on the GTA. What didn't go on the GTA was sold in the classifieds or on E-Bay. The Z28 still has the 383 short block and DFI. I ordered an Accel ProRam and fuel rail kit for it a while ago but I'm concentrating on the GTA right now. Not to mention the fact that I'm broke
If anyone needs any parts off the LG4 car let me know.

It's a base firebird. It's blue and silver. The interior is grey and the seats are actually in pretty good shape. It has the standard air cleaner for the LG4.

how much for the seat? (i am just as poor as you after the tranny so it will probably be after christmas when i can afford to get it
I had a thought about what might have caused your heavy metal spaghetti.
If you lost oil pressure for some reason, dirty oil stuck relief valve in the oil filter adaptor, just not enough oil or something the lifters would loose pressure and the push rods would have a lot of slop between them and the rocker arms even enough so that they could fly right out and get munched up. When you said that the top of the valves were badly worn and scored that also sounds like the valve lash went out of adjustment possibly because of a loss of oil pressure. The only other time I have seen that kind of thing happen is when someone does a cam swap for a cam with a tone of lift and they don't check the clearance in the bottom of the Rocker arm if you go over about .580 lift you need to elongate the slot in the bottom of the rocker arms so they don't bind on the stud. Something caused this. Don't put it back together until you find out what. Good luck

. I'll mention that to Randy. I think it's a matter of me screwing something up when I put it together.Thread
