why do you guys invest so much in your motors? instead of buying knew ones

why do some of you guys invest so much in motors with 60K + miles on them when you could get a brand knew motor with more power for about the same price with 0 miles? and sell your old one?

i dont understand. Like why would someone put on a 3500 dollar supercharger just to get 350 HP when 5000 grand would buy a easy 450 HP engine?

is it because you guys dont have all the money at once or maybe i just dont know what im talking about..

are the after market mottors built to last, i mean they use really good parts, and then if you put on a supercharger HOLY!!!

half the time guyz will redo the engine they have, y go out and purchase a new block when they have a good base 350 already.. toss on some nice heads, new cam and intake and u gotta screamer.. alot of guyz get teh block bored and or clean up, plus the new internals, that basically the same as buying a new motor.. i have a used 4 bolt main 350 sitting in my garage being built into a 396 stroker, the blocks gonna go get bored, magnafluxed, totally cleaned up, isn't that the same as new one, as long as theres nothign wrong with it, its just as strong and will work just as good as new.. :lala: :lala:

If you're like me and you don't have cash sitting around but you have a need for speed, it's nice to be able to constantly upgrade what you've got, whenever you can. You get the satisfaction of improvement, gain speed, and you spend the money you've got instead of driving it stock for a couple years before you can upgrade it.

well...i dont know about the rest of you...but the reason i upgrade is because i dont have the money to rebuild the motor...i would rebuild...but i would never buy a prebuilt motor..main reason being i like to do the work myself and not have some other guy do all the work...i like that satisfaction. The other reason y i just upgrade is because if the motor runs strong and has nothign wrong with it..no reason in gettin a new one till the current one goes to ****...

ahhh rebuild..wanna rebuild a 327 i have in the garage and see if i can put the tpi on that..hmmm i wonder......

Where the hell can you get a knew engine? I've never heard of one of those before.

By the way, a supercharged stock engine will be much more streeetable than a 450 horsepower n/a engine.

Like most of us I do the mods stepwise, as I can afford to. And most of us like to wrench on our rides, i.e. hot rodding.

Also it's a lot easier (facility wise) to do intake, ignition, cooling, exhause and heads (maybe cam) than to pull an engine. I've done all my mods in the parking lot, except of course exhaust work.

The only reason I'd swap engines would be to go from an LB9 to say an L98 or a 383. And that's not happening with my IROC.

After seeing peoples experiences I think any motor I ever have now will be one that I have put together. I dont trust shops anymore. A crate motor might be decent but I still trust my own hands putting something together.

Well I dont know about all that I built a 460 hp motor with Tuned Port on top and I only spent 3200.

And as for what someone said about a supercharged 450 hp car being more streetable then a 450 N/A motor being more streetable. I dont have any problems...

Chevy High Performance built a 400 HP motor for $2400. So would you rather spend $2400 and some of your time and build a 400 HP motor yourself, or buy a 330-350 HP engine for $3500. I can see both sides of it though. I bought a new motor, but that's because I didnt' wanna try and build my old 155,000 mile 305, so I bought a GM crate motor, not that remand crap.
