Are ported cast iron heads better than corvette aluminium heads?
I've checked heads cast # (14101081) on my '88 350TPI engine and i've found, that they are 305 heads (small valves 1.8x/1.5)
Have anybody same heads on 350 engine? Can I port them, so they flow better? Or must I better look for the Vette aluminium heads? I found also some chart for that cast iron heads:

Page:

Can somebody give me advice, should I port them? I dont have other mods at the time, but I plan port plenum, runners, intake ja use LT1 cam or smth like that. I have short headers & K&N filter. Tnx

The vette heads offer some advantages that dont exist with the cast heads.
1.) weight savings
2.) smaller combustion chamber (higher compression)((not always good))
3.) D-port exhaust
and some other small things
You'll be better with vette aluminums if you can afford them

But other than that, the vette heads do offer some advantages. Even if you can't afford the vette heads, I'd get some kind of used 350 heads and port them (preferably iron L98 heads)...you can find them cheap, and they will flow a hell of a lot better than the 305 heads.

You have to remember that Al disipates heat a lot quicker than iron. This effectively lowers the compression ratio (CR), if you want to regain the "lost" CR you can deck the heads.

Casting # for L98 Iron heads 14101083, though you'll also see 14096217 occasionally. They're almost exactly the same head, the and both were also used on the 285hp 350 crate motor that gm offered back then.

Do the D-shaped exhaust ports make any difference as far as mating up to a pair of headers since the headers are not D-shaped?
