Can someone show some of the mods involved with installing the Stealth Ram? By showing some of the steps with pictures, could really help out some of the not so talented mechanics out there.
What I mean is some of the people that want it can actually see if they're up to the task of doing it themselves.

I dont have any pics, but the swap involves some improvising and modification, esp concerning the fuel lines. If you've never done an intake swap before, this is not something you shoudl try yourself unless you've got a knowledgable buddy or something.

How hard can it be???

**** there are 6 bolts on each side that you put down into the heads. toruqe them in incrments to 30 ft pounds following a GM service manual or haynes manual what have you.

Then, keep track of the vacuum lines you disconnected while taking what you had apart. Hook them back up to the ports provided. Attach the upper using the supplied bolts.

Cmon guys it isnt friggin rocket science.

I had my stealth ram ordered.

then my engine blew, so I had to call and cancel my order, I am getting a 383 stroker made out of it, but I am on a limited time frame since I have to drive it to FL in a month and a 1/2 and dont have the time to do things like changing distributors, changing angles to fit heads, and all the little stuff that adds up so I ordered the TPIS big mouth base, and am gonna use that with SLP siamese runners, and a ported/siamese plenum, on the 383. should be nice.

 

Dude, it's gotta be easier than putting on a Superram. LOL!

If you can install a SR, the Holley should be cake.

Ease of maintenance is the #1 reason why I'm gonna ditch my SR for the Miniram or possibly the Holley.

 

If I'm not mistaken, haven't there been a few pictures posted of "under" the hood? What more do you want? Somebody to uninstall the intake and then give you step by step pictures on how to install? Put this intake bolt here put this hose here?

Oh yea, is it bad if you can uninstall the superram in about 25minutes with your eyes closed since you've done it so many times?

Ok for the guys that need pictures of "the hookups" or "install procedures":

Two things,

First, I know of 3 or 4 people that have this installed. I believe two of them are on thirdgen.org regularly. I do not know any of them personally. Its not like everyone and there brother is installing this thing yet. If you want to be hand held through the installation then wait 6 months until its penetrated the market and I'm sure someone will have taken some more detailed pics or be able to talk you through it. I'm not planning on taking installation pictures when I install mine just because 1. I dont have a digital camera, and 2. Its a pain to stop working and shoot a pic everytime you get something done.


Secondly, Some of you seem to have the attitude that you're somehow entitled to this information. You've gotta realize that this is a member supported (content wise) forum, and its free, so you should take what you can get. There are alot of great very knowledgable guys here, but its not anyones job to go take pictures for you or help you out. There are only two people I've seen on the board that have taken picures on request and posted them, Mark A. Shields and Vader, I'm sure there are others, but it's not common practice.


So basically you shouldnt expect full install pictures of something this new yet. In fact, I've never really seen the kind if "hookup" pictures youre talking about in anything less that a well-written installation manual. Take the information you can get on it (a huge ammount really), and If youre still unsure about installing then either order it from someplace with a good return policy or wait on it until theres enough install information or pictures to make you feel confident that you can handle it.

 

Oh, and loose the caps badgta, it screams newbie.

 

Want to know what I think? You dont know a damn thing about being an auto mechanic. If you cant install an intake manifold, you shouldnt be ordering it. There is no rocket science to it.

Why dont you ask someone local to you how to install because it isnt going to be any different than any old standard carb intake. What do you have to hook up anyway? Plug the EGR ports on the solenoid. Bam youve killed a couple vacuum lines already. Plug off the ones on the bottom of the TB if you have to. Would also be a good time to plug off the coolant to TB so bam another port you dont have to put anything to. Next, you have a power brake booster. Big whoop. A MAT sensor you have to put somewhere. Again not rocket science. If you have to put it in the intake bellows big deal. Extend the wire and stick it there.


Come ON folks! There is nothing to show to this! Get some brains!

 

Do a search like I said and there is pretty good instructions on how to do it and what mods need to be done. DO A SEARCH its not like this topic has ever came up.

 

How hard could it be to tone it down here?? If the information does not get posted that you asked for, you need to deal with it instead of making rude comments. Play nice. I will not warn you about this again.

Guido, you said exactlu what i was thinking but to reserved to say. On a non emissions engine vacuum hookup is imcredibly simple. And if you habe to run emissions stuff you shouldnt be installing stealthram anyway.

 

U guys have some really serious issues.Its only a question about some pictures of a intake install! The new fuel lines have to be made up, what about a picture of the wiring that goes into the new smaller dist. that has to be installed. If U dont want to answer the questions just move on to the next post. There is no need to bring all of that negative UP IN HERE!!!
Im more than qualified to install a simple intake manifold. If U look at the original post , U will see that the question clearly states:

Im just sick of the lack of common gearhead sense that is showing up in these "Please post pics" threads. There is nothing to photograph when you convert to a later model distributor. You need the ends from the seperate coil of course. You also need the pigtail that ties from the coil to the distributor. You cut the old tach and power lead ends off, then install the new ones. Its not difficult either because the wires are the same color.

Then, you cut off the large 4 wire connector for the old style distributor, then connedct the new one. Again, its color coded the same so its a no brainer. Solidy with heat shrink or wire nuts and there you go. Conversion. I did mine of an evening easily. not difficult.

forgive me? in my hastiness i actually thought there could be one or two people on this board that could help..... i never wanted to start anything, but certain people had to post there liitle snide remarks on how inferior the rest of us was.... i never wanted step by step pics of an install, i was hoping someone would take some closeups of their fuel line and vaccum hookups after the install. is that asking for trouble? just asking if someone would do this? it must not be or this thread would'nt have been started... the only reason i asked for pics, is because i needed to see how they done theirs.. if i let the gm dealer who will be putting the motor back in the car(because my uncle sold the tripods i was using) thats going to cost alot of money for the extra time to fab things.. and yes i have over two years of mechanic experience. and will be the one building the 383 going in the car, but i just don't have the tripods.. so with that being said, and if i get banned for what i'm about to say oh well!, but to you out there who do nothing but make your little snide and stupid remarks, and do nothing but pick on others f**k you!!!!!!

Wow, I'm glad I didn't get this attitude when I decided to swap a L98 in place of my LO3 in the 89 RS! I remember asking some pretty basic questions. I got no flames, just good responses. Now, I probably would have said "screw it" and never came back to this board. I had decent mechanical ability but never played in the fuel injection realm before.
Geez guys, I know the repetative questions get old, and everyone can't be an expert like some on the board, but we are SUPPOSEDLY here to help. If you don't like the post, ignore it!
