Stalling When Hot
Stalling When Hot
TPI motor stalls and die's only when stopped and idling and only when motor is at 200-210 degrees (the hottest it gets), after it cools for 5-10 minutes it starts fine and runs perfect... until the next stop. I have a fairly new NOS inline fuel pump on it. Before it dies it idles very rough at about 400 rpm and a loud (much louder than normal) hissing sound comes from the throttle body area, then when I throttle it, it dies. I've checked fuel pump wiring and ground, and all other grounds for the FI. I've read a ton of archived post on similar problems but none seem to be exactly my problem. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks
I have an idea, but don't know if it will fix the problem. Check all of the vaccume lines going to the throttle body, if they all check out ok, take the TB off and inspect the gasket on the bottom of it. After I changed my bottom gasket mine quit the hissing problem, but you have to go to a dealer to get the rebuild kit, I couldn't find a bottom gasket at any local auto parts shop, and I didn't even have them here at Summit.
Thanks for the replies, forgot to mention it also backfires through the intake when it is stumbling, right before it dies.
I really feel my problem has to be heat related, because I've been driving it daily for the last 2 months and it only happens (4 times so far) is when I drive with the AC on in the afternoon when it's over 100 degree's out (pheonix, AZ). My charging system is very healthy, and all vacuum hoses are new, wiring harness is also brand new (painless).
I've read alot in the archive about the ignition module... My question is this, If there was a problem with the ignition module could it be intermittent and if so could the heat trigger it to crap out? Thanks again.
