let me the first to say this here.....USE ANY BRAND NAME OIL AND AN ACDELCO FILTER AND CHANGE IT EVERY 3000 Miles and you should be set for over 150,000 miles.... I use 10w-30 Castrol GTX in the summer and 5w-30 Castrol GTX in the winter. JUST CHANGE YOUR OIL AND FILTER EVERY 3000 miles......I can't stress that enough.

Basically keep chaning oil in filter, or in my case (b/c i am an AMSOIL dealer) I run amsoil 10w-40, and SDF-25 heavy duty filter, and that oil will last me all summer, no need about changing it all, oil pressure is great, amsoil is the way to go..i use it for everthing, tranny, rear end, 2 cycle, its great, you can go longer on it if you just change the filter

I put mobile 1 synthetic 5w-30 in my 92 Z when I first got the car, it had 76,000 miles on it then. Now it has 147,000 miles and still runs strong and no smoke from the motor.
I have run it down the drag strip about 80 time in the last 3 years also.

I do change the oil and filter every 3000 to 3500 miles.

You can get a 5 gallon jug of Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart for $17.88. IMO, that's not all that expensive.

I'll have to agree, Mobile 1 synthetic is the way to go. I use 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter and change my filter about every 100o miles and change the oil about every 4000 miles. I use a ACDelco filter, STAY AWAY FROM pensoil and valvoline TRUST ME

If you start to notice oil leaks go back to what you were using.Mobil 1 will break down any build up that might have been preventing leaks.

i don't think that is really true. it may break down some stuff but if there was anything big enough to leak through it would be leaking now. i switched (before my new motor) and had no problems at all. my gaskets had 110xxx miles on them and didn't leak.
if you have proof for what you say let me know i would like to read up on it.
i still say if it leaks you had problems before. i mean the only place for it to leak is front and rear main seals which have the crank rotating in it so there is no way for something to build up. then the oil pan gasket which is rubber and reuseable so there is no reason why it would let something build up since if it leaks then its a bad gasket anyways since its rubber. same for the rocker arm cover gaskets. then you just have the timing chain cover which seals well anyways and some use rtv sealant and if it leaks its because it wasn't put on correctly just like the front and rear of the intake. then the intake gaskets but they have vaccume on them so stuff can't clog them and the the head gaskets have pressure on them so that nothing will build up there because you'll blow a gasket before the oil will seal anything.

Synthetics supposedly use stronger/more detergents. They're great for removing gum/gunk from your engine but at the same time that gum/gunk can be around the inner edges of your gaskets, when thats broken down if you have small or possible leaks they're now alot more likely to be externally visible.

If you're positive your gaskets are 100% sealed synthetics are the way to go.

I USE MOBIL 1 IN MY 1991 FORMULA 350, AND FRAM SURE GRIP OIL FILTER. EVERY 3000 MILES, NOT 6000 MILES AS MOST OF OUR BOOKS SAY. I USE MOBIL 1 BECAUSE THATS WHAT GM CARS USE I BELIEVE. MY DADS 2000 MALIBU CAME WITH MOBIL 1 IN IT AND HAD A STICKER SAYING USE MOBIL 1 PRODUCTS.

Whats up with fram? why is fram getting such bad repore here?

I've used them in a pinch, I opt for AC delco, and once ran an STP.

I had heard the same thing about synthetic oil causing leaks in older engines and thought that was a bunch of crap . But my brother has a 1967 Charger and he was going to change the oil and I told him he should get the Mobil 1 because of it being an older motor that it might help it last longer . Well I dont know where it leaked from , probably the main seals , but it definetly caused it to leak oil ! He was pretty pissed because he is a penny pincher and it killed him to spend the extra money on the Mobil 1 just to have it cause leaks . We are talking about a 1967 engine though , the car is not an old junker , it is in excellent condition but the engine has never been rebuilt to our knowledge so these seals are OLD . I have run the Mobil 1 and Amsoil in my 1990 GTA with no problems , the last few oil changes I have used the straight 50 weight Valvoline Racing oil because with the heat here in Florida when my temp. gauge climbs my oil pressure gauge drops .

Thats correct, synthetic oil has caused oil leaks in higher mileage motors that were not already accustomed to it when it had low miles.

Yea, I put Mobile1 in my wifes truck with 140k on it and it leaked like a sieve after a while. Kept filling it with the Mobile1 and it
finaly quit leaking and has stayed full for several months now.

That's what I was told it would do. Cause leaks from the cleaning
action then quit leaking after it softened the seals and gaskets
back up.

I would try STP oil treatment for any first timers in high mileage motors for atleast the first 3 oil changes and then you can just you the synthetic with out the oil treatment. The stuff is only $3 so I would give it a shot to save hassles from leaks. It may or may not help.

I found Mobil 1 5 gal jug at the WalMart in Laurel which is right off of 198 for around $17. I then picked up a Mobil 1 Filter at the autozone down the street on Rt 1 for about $10. No way should you pay $30 a case.

First off:
The argument about the price of Mobil 1 oil. One guy is obviously talking synthetic and the other one isnt.
Second:
I will NEVER use a Fram oil or air filter. Any oil filters that come from the factory with paint flakes all over and in them are not going in my expensive motors. Now, about the Fram air filters. My buddy that races cars had his Fram(used in a pinch) come apart and cost him a race. When they pulled off the outerwear, the filter completely came undone, and it looked like someone stuffed it full of cotton.

:hail: Mobil oil with Wix or K&N filter

I use the 3-in-1 oil that comes in that little red and white Can. Works really good!

If Mobil 1 is too expensive for you, then you should buy an accord. (wich BTW would still benifit from The Mobil 1)

Castrol 20W-50 for me in the summer, then come winter i'll use 10W-30

that's oil the motor has seen since the day it was rebuilt and will continue to see until someone proves to me that Mobil 1 is really worth it(ain't gonna happen, i know someone that wiped out 2 cams using mobil 1 in a TTA motor, went to castrol, hasn't wiped one out since)

all i can say is that if gm recommends mobil 1 on newer cars, then i am going to use it in my motor.

i dont think motor oil would have anything to do with motor's breaking, especially from mobil 1 to castrol, just bad luck i guess.

I second Fred91TA.... you can get a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at Walmart for like $17. Good deal if u ask me... that means you buy that and the oil filter for $3 and your grand total for a synthetic oil change is $20.... not to bad!
