MAT sensor relocation?
MAT sensor relocation?
i have heard of several guys putting thier mat sensor in the air box for a cooler reading. is there any performance gain to this? is it worth it to go ahead and do it? what does this do for the car? thanks

A relocate MAT/IAT does NOTHING on a MAF car. The MAF measures the air flow for ALL fuel calculations. Any changes in air temp is detected by the MAF, NOT the IAT/MAT.
The IAT/MAT on a MAF car is solely for enabling/disabling the EGR, so all you will do is affect the operation of the EGR. Save your money.

Re: MAT sensor relocation?
"what about a MAP car?"
I have had this discussion with the local guys here in our TPI club. My thought is the factory tables in the ECM are set up for the location to be in the plenum. If you relocate it to a location in front of the throttle body then IMHO you would have to go back in a change the tables. I would like to hear other opinions on the subject.

Re: MAT sensor relocation?
In theory if it did indeed add more fuel, it would made more power (best af ratio is 12:1), but 14.7 is the "best" for reduction in NOx emissions, and that's why we run that normally.

That's why I said "in theory if it did", not implying it did, not implying it didn't.

Re: MAT sensor relocation?
So I was right on the ball last year. You did it again vetteoz. Thank you. I just never got a concrete answer on my idea of tapping the EVAP Canister until now.

You already worked out best way last year.

Re: MAT sensor relocation?
You can relocate it to the air box like I did on all my cars, just make sure its in the flow of the air..
Will it make more power? Not really anything even a dyno will pickup.

Re: MAT sensor relocation?
So what about using the V6 sensor in the V8 location (in the plenum) ? Would that not give a more IAT reading, for a speed-density car?
