I wonder why somebody hasn't made a ZR1 type intake for us? I think the ZR1's were DOHC right? And they were like 3x valve or something right? I don't really know much about it honestly, but I think it looks cool and if it could be done, would if be better than any of the other intakes out there?

There's really no point to having 16 runners when you've only got 8 intake ports.

So it wouldn't flow better or anything? And i'm assuming nothing else would work right on our cars since we're not DOHC and it is. I dunno, i've never seen this asked before, thought this would be a big topic. Figured may be a good idea. Guess not.

those 32 valve heads were made by lotus and therefore very expensive and not worth the extra hp/rpms for the dollar..
and i don't think they were DOHC.. more like 1 pushrod worked 2 intake ports and the other worked the two exhaust ports.. the intake had short/long runner set up so it could breath at the higher rpm's..
that's how it was explained to me.

Yeah I knew it was 32 or somewhere close. But I was pretty sure it was dual overhead cam.
And I knew it was a GM/Lotus thing. Well damn...... I thought it'd be a great idea. LOL. Guess so much for that one. I don't understand why it'd wouldn't be good. I mean if I understood you correctly, wouldn't having the combination of long and short runners be really good? And what if somebody could make a intake manifold to work with some good brand of heads? I guess this will go nowhere, so that'll be the last questions.

It's just not good from a business point-of-view. Nobody would pay what it would cost to R&D then market something like that for what's essentially the cheapest group of automotive enthusiasts to market something to. Don't take it personally, but we've hashed out things like this many times and it always ends up in a pissing contest, but boiled down to "we're too cheap to make something like that worthwhile for someone to build".
And if you don't believe me, just review a month's worth of topics and look for a pattern. "What's the cheapest way to..." "What's the cheapest intake.." "What's the best bang for the buck."... How often do you see "I'm made of money, let's talk theory..."? Nope, never happens.
I really hate to sound negative because I like the discussions on engine theory, but, you're right, it's not going anywhere.
This was why.

No... the LT5.. the engine code for the ZR1 vettes... are DOHC... they have 32valves.. no push rods.. very expensive... and ur right on the lotus design.. GM joined them to develop that engine... and its still a 5.7L engine.. and made killer HP.. i belive 405 was the max they got out of the engine durring the early 90's... that hasnt been touched till the newest ZO6... with the super LS6 in inside.. now that is a OHV/ pushrod engine

Yeah, they were DOHC.....and each intake port (16) has 2 runners....1 for "all the time", and one that has a butterfly on it. Kinda like best of both worlds. I think you're looking for about $15000 for a used one......if you can find one....but I have no real info on that...just something I heard somewhere.
