is the SDPC votrec tpi base better flowing then stock

I was thinking of putting the vortec heads on my 91z28 and somehow i cant bring myself to spending $400 on a "stock" tpi base. Does SDPC tpi base flow as good as the aftermaket replacements? It sure would be great if there was a Big Mouth manifold to bolt to the vortecs without problems. also, how about the HOT cam and vortec heads. Good combo or what?

the base openings for the runners were almost
1.75 inch if i remember when i put mine on( stock
was 1.48 ) . i have been happy with my setup
with an aggressive cam .510 lift 220 intake 220
exhaust duration , 1 3/4 shorty headers , stock
150,000 mile shortblock , stock catback exhaust ,
stock gm typhoon torque converter , heavily modified
intake runners , 13.50's at 102 mph on motor- 12.28
on a 90 shot of n2o on bridgestone tires .

mike

i got a good intake runner pic if someone tells
me where i can e-mail it so i can post it ..

TurboTater's, nice job on the runners. basically you now have only 4 runners right? what did you do to achieve this, cut the runners and then weld a new piece of aluminum over it to combine 2 into 1?You are running the Vortec heads and SDPC intake too? How do you feel the HOT cam would work with your mods?

Wow, someone else who did the siamesed-runner mod. I am still in the process of creating mine.

Yes the SDPC Vortec TPI base is larger and flows better than stock. Its created by Edelcrock so it should be very similar to their regular TPI intake.

yes i took a plasma cutter and sliced lengthwise
leaving the flanges and formed a piece of sheet
aluminum to the fill the gap . i then cut out the
runner divider along with the plenum to the shape
you see in the picture . the flange on the lower intake
i left and ground a radius on what was left to form
a round leading edge for the entrance to the lower
intake . i have a lot of pics if someone wants to post
them ( thanxs 4l60bliss for the last one ) ..
the power band on my car is strongest from 3000-6000
and doesn't fall off bad until 6300 .. at the track datamaster
logging had 12-15 degree timing being pulled out due to
knock ,it turned out my slp drivers side crossover pipe
was hitting the crossmember causing false knock . i feel
upper 12's at 105-106 is possible in my 150,000 mile
stock short block . i have been very happy with this combo.
my car still has the factory cat back exhaust and i might
pick up some by changing it as well .
as to the cam question , a hot cam would work well i like
a more aggressive sound personally ..
let me know if you have any other questions ...
