TB compatibilty

Other than the throttle cable hookup, what is the difference between throttle bodies for 85-88 and 89-92 TPI cars?

In other words can I use a TB from an 88 L98 on my 89 L98 if I get a throttle cable for an 88? I heard somewhere about maybe having different idle circuits or something like that but I'm not sure what that is and if it applies in this situation. Thanks

The 9th injector feed from the 85-88 plenum doens't have any place to go on an 89-92 TB. The gasket on an 85-88 looks like goggles, the gasket on 89-92 has two bores, and a triangle.

other than that, and the throttle cable, same beast. Oh, and ther is always the adjustability of the TPS, but I'm not sure if that part of the TB is different or whether it started in 89 or 90.

Thanks. My TPS is adjustable with the torx screws so sounds like the throttle cable is all I need.

Danny,

I believe you heard that from me...the difference is that the IAC passages or EGR enter the plenum in different areas.

Do yourself a favor, pull the TB on your car, and compare it to the earlier style you have in your hand...it's been a year or so, but I did just that (compare) and although I can't remember why, I know that it seemed to be a definite no-go to use an earlier style on my '89.

Actually, you're exactly wrong. The earlier cars have the triangular hole between the tb bores. Later cars don't use this.
