K&N Filter Question
Is there some sort of Mass Air Flow bypass or something? I don't understand how people put the K&N Filters on their throttle bodies without the computer being able to control O2 to Fuel ratio. Then again, trying to explain anything that has to do with fuel injection is like speaking Spanish to me. If anyone has an answer that would be awesome. If you provide some info, I'll provide you a good joke.

The filters that attach right to the end of the throttle body on TPI's is for MAP cars only, which don't have the MAF sensor in the intake tube.....
You wouldn't want to do that anyway. It sounds like a shop vac when the engine is on and it sucks in hot, under-hood air which reduces power.
In my EFI swap, I went to great pains to build some sort of cold air tube. In this respect, I envy you guys with the third-gens who have the cold air boxes in the front. I'd love to be able to build something like that, but 71's weren't designed with that in mind.

how do i determine if my car has this MAP you speak of? if i had the time and money to invest i would design and build a ram air box out of sheet aluminum and fiberglass for third gens with the gta hoods. but i dont have money or time. so itll have to wait i guess. im an auto body mechanic in the air force. but its not like a conventional body shop. sometimes in the other maintenance shops, vehicles need parts that take days to ship. we dont buy them, we make them. the body shop is like a custom parts shop. we bend, cut, roll, metal. sometimes we paint vehicles. i could definitely make an air box. the only hard parts would be figuring out hood clearance and making sure the mass air flow sensor wires will reach the box.
A MAP car will not have a MAF sensor in the air duct. Instead, it has a Manifold Air Pressure sensor mounted (I believe) on the left side of the upper plenum near the rear of the manifold with a vacuum line running to it.

thanx for the information guys, i really appreciate it. now heres the joke i promised. A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though they were a very large mammal their throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. The teacher reiterated
that a whale could not swallow a human; it was impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to Heaven I will ask Jonah." The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you can ask him."
