How fast can 305 TPI automatics get to be?

I am planning on getting a 92 Z28 and it will most likely have a 305 TPI. How fast can these engines be made to go with an automatic and no NOS and still be smog legal?

Also, what can a 305 TPI auto with headers and a cat back be able to beat assuming everything else is stock?

I would say 12s should be no problem. A H/C/I combo with some suspension should get you 12s with traction. With spray it should be able to go much quicker also!

Local guy aroaund here put some 58cc factory heads with a little port work, flat tops, carbed it, and sprayed it and went high 12's. Not bad considered he really didn't have much in it. I'd imagine with good heads and cam, then spray, it'd come out pretty well.

WITHOUT NOS it would require a good set of heads/cam and almost every bolt-on. It is far from difficult but does require $$

Yeah, right now I should be in the high 13's I think, I have never run at the track though. Just requires time, patience, a little bit of money, and did I mention patience?

Just get yourself a 200 shot of NX nitrous if you don't like NOS

Mid 13's would be fast enough for me.

Check out my sig to see what put me in the upper 13's. It's basically just bolt ons. I don't plan on speeding the BIG $$ for heads and cam. I haven't really priced the parts but I'm sure the install would be some $$. I do most of the work on my car but heads and cam might be pushing it for me. But I do believe with enough money you could hit upper 12's. There is nothing better than a 12 sec. 305. I'd rather have a 13 sec. 305 than a 12 sec 350.

if u really wanna know how fast a 305tpi auto can get it really comes down to your check book. you can run mid 14's with 1500 in mods or mid 13's with 3000 in mods and then high 12's with 4000 in mods. it ll depends on what you want with the cash you have.
