ZZ4 cam in stock L98
I just picked up A zz4 cam and lifters for $75 and plan on putting them in my 1991 RS B4C with a 350. The motor is completely stock (for now). Will I need to have a chip burned or need screw in studs for this?

You will need a lot of things, like a set of new springs, a modified PROM, probably hardened pushrods, and you will need to do other work to your heads like machining the valve guides and so fourth to accept that kind of lift. I don't know about the screw-in studs however. But it doesn't matter anyway, that zz4 cam is way too much for your stock heads/induction combo. If anything, it'll make you slower, because that cam will trade off all the lowend torque that tpi and those heads are designed for, for a top-end that those same pieces can't support. I'd wouldn't advise putting it in without giviing your heads and induction some attention.

I totally disagree with REDFIREBIRD. I put the zz4 cam in my 91 z28 and it picked up 2 tenths and 1.5 mph in the 1/4. I didnt even have the heads machined for clearance. Also that was with stock exhaust maifolds. It ran even better with the headers installed.I ran a best of 13.11 with that camshaft and various other mods.My best 60ft on slicks was 1.73 so I didnt loose any low end power by using the zz4 cam.I used the zz4 retainers and springs and it cleared my valve guides just fine. The zz4 retainers are shorter then stock retainers so they give you more guide clearance. Also I have the stock chip so I dont have any Idea why you think it wont work! It worked great for me!! Its been in my car for 90,000 miles so far and I havent had one problem with the camshaft or the valve train. I would just check and make sure that the new retainers clear the guides to be safe but it worked fine for me without getting the guides cut down.

Ya man, if you want to go fast you MUST build a motor up ALL at the same time.
Anyway, I'll get those labels on the lifters for ya and try to get the cam to Steve. (ponyeater)

I am throwing around the same idea now. Putting in a cam something like a ZZ4 or Comp Cams 218/224, but I won't be able to put new heads on it. I would however go with new springs and roller rockers.
I've got an Accel Superram lower intake and AS&M LTR's. The only missing piece would be the heads.
I know I should wait till I can afford heads but at the rate I'm going it may take along time. I've got to rebuild the rearend this spring (not cheap to do on a 9 bolt).
To cam or not to cam?
Bob

The 218/224 will definitely want some heads. If that's what you're going to end up doing in the long run, just wait a little longer and do it right the first time. You have the stock iron heads or aluminum?
