Timing won't advance...

The timing is currently set at something like 13 degrees, when we set it at stock (6 degrees) it would barely run and/or start. We disconnected the EST wire and set it perfectly, but it ran horribly. Then we noticed that as we accelerated, the timing wouldn't advance, it would either say the same, or retard a degree or two (we never confirmed that one).

Any ideas as to why the timing would not advance?

How are you noticing the timing is not
advancing when accelerating? ALDL Scanner?

by the looks of the way he explained it, they were using a timing light. id say possibly your balancers ring has slipped?

Yeah, we were using a timing light to check/set it when we stumbled upon this. The next step I'll take is seeing if the balancer ring has slipped as you suggested.

I would like to see you checking the timing with a light while accelerating.

Could get into the Circus with an act like that.

No Code 42 During all this eh ?

im sure they are implying one knows the difference between accelerating engine speed and vehicle speed.

We disconnected the EST wire and set it perfectly, but it ran horribly.
the code 42 would be useless to discuss.

It threw a code 42 at first, then we set the timing to 6 degrees and it hasn't come back yet.
