400hp 350 TPI

Okay so I am pretty much decided on getting a 350 TPI for my 1990 RS and want about 350-400hp. I am going to go all forged internals, but what would you guys suggest as far as heads, cam, and etc... goes. The ins and outs of motors are still a little fuzzy for a novice like myself. I am also getting a six-speed if that helps any.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!!!!!

Nathan

No offense intended, but if the ins and outs of "motors" (engines) are fuzzy to you, I doubt youre in any postion to be chosing major components for them. If I were you, Id do some research (there are tons of sources on the web for this) and read some of the tech articles on this site, first. Also, you need to be more specific about exactly how much power you want to make and where at in the RPM range you want it. How can we help you chose components when you dont have any set goals in mind? Aftermarket companies also tend to be pretty good about helping you chose parts. For example, Crane or Comps tech line is probably the best help you can get for chosing a cam for your combo. Once again, do some research, get a general understanding, and maybe you wont need anyone elses help. Sorry to sound offensive, but this question gets asked a lot.

some vortech heads w/ base plate, slp runners, ported plenum and good igition and headers should put u at 360hp, oh and the right cam, an LT4 cam might work out well but decide on how u wanna do this and then work out the details

First of all sorry for being so general, this is the first motor that I have involved myself in. I posted to get some general help on the modifications. I know how an engine works, but I just wanted to know the opinions of others that have modified their engines and had similar results. I have heard that bigger is better, but I have also heard that it is all in the combination so I wanted a little input as far as what worked and what didn't. Yes you did sound a little rude, but if the question is asked alot I can understand. No offense taken.

Now then, I won't need anything above 5500 or 6000 rpm's as it will be a daily driver and I only plan to race occasionally. Also, I would like decent low end. So the overall power to start about 1000 and climb to 5000-6000. I have looked into some things and was planning on calling some aftermaket companies as well as some friends that have alot more experience than I do.

I am most likely getting an engine from oreilly and they told me that I could get just about anything on it that I wanted. Would this be the best way, or should I get a 350 block and go from there? My budget is a consideration. I don't want to get too much over 4k.

Again any and all help is greatly appreciated. If I am still to vague let me know and I will get more info. I am going to reasearch some things and hope that I can get some help here, I know that I have in the past.

Thanks
Nate

ok there are severl ways of doing this.
you can put vortech heads and base on a 350 short block and then get good aftermarket runners, along with a good sized cam should put you in for roughly 350hp, depending on the exact compents chosen. a motor like this should set u back about 2800-3600
you can also get some aftermarket heads like world. they make good head, now with aftermarket heads you can then chose to go with any intake tht u desiree, like miniram, stealth ram, etc. i wold get stealth ram with world heads, good shortblock and a cam sumthing like .490/.490 215/215. a motor like that would be like 4000-5500. the nice thing about stealth ram is it comes with everything from computer to tb. to injectors for 2300. 25%, heads 25% valvetrain 25% abd a good rotaing asembly.

if ur not fimilar wit tpi, and stuff i suggest to bring it somewhere and let the do it.

Okay so how bout something like AFR's 190 heads, would those work well with a decent cam and the stealth ram? How about the super ram?

If I can get my paws on a superRam I will go that way, but for now it looks like TPI.

I have AFR 190s and LT4 hot cam. I'm running these w/a TPI system(see sig). I believe I'm around/close to 400bhp. After I run my car at the track this spring I will most likely go HSR. From what I've read HSR,AFR 190s and Hotcam is the stuff of 11s, all things considered.
