How did the cams differ betwen different L98 years?

I've got an opportunity sometime in the future to get the cam out of a 91 L98. Is this cam better than my 87 L98 cam? what kind of gains would it give me? Would it be worth the trouble to swap?

thanks

There are 2 L98 cams. The MAF cam and the SD cam. The MAF cam (the one you have now) is actually a little bigger than the later one, and also has a slightly wider LSA.

The specs are so close, and since the MAF cam is slightly bigger anyway, no you wouldn't wanty to swap.

Yeah, check the tech data base for cam breakdowns.

yours is 202/207 @.050, .404/.415

90-92 is 202/207 @.050, .413/.428

Barely any different, not sure it would be worth it, just add some 1.6 rockers and you're well past the 90-92s lift...

Thats what i get for going off memory. Just did some quick searches and it seems everything says the 87s had a smaller cam than the 88-89. What's weird though is the specs for the 87 cam look exactly like the flat tappet 'vette cam that the 85 TPI and L69 cars had. So it's possible that it's bad data.

Either way, not really worth swapping.

Correct.

The 1988-89 L98's had the 'big cam':

PN#10066049

207/213 .413"/.430" 117 lobe sep angle
