Make sure you get that block check out by a very competent machine shop or engine builder. With the damage to the rest of the rotating assembly I wouldn't be surprised if the block has some damage as well. It smoked a rod journal or main journal? Not trying to make your situation any worse, just telling you what I think.

2 bolt blocks have seen 500 horse without breakage,
2 bolts will hold 450 in its sleep..
u should have the block gone through thoroughly

So you want to make a 383 out of that block. I'd strongly suggest another block. The longer stroke of a 383 will bring the piston even closer to that damaged area.
I agree with rick and toss that scrap iron away. I wouldn't chance building a new motor on that block. And just to chime in...I've seen a two-bolt make 650 flywheel horse and run all day long. Much more and you do need a four bolt or have the machine shop install splayed four bolt caps on your two bolt block. especially since two bolts are a dime a dozen. Just my $.02.

The fact that the rods let go like that, and that rods letting go are the most common failure mechanism are all the evidence a laymen should need to realize that the main caps are generally not the weak spot in a street 4" bore SBC.
Man, I have seen this to often. As far as stroking that block, I would forget about that. However if you ever wanted to rebuild it as a 350 again, I would take it to a machinist and have him clean and mag it. Unless you clean it and see any cracks off the bat. I have seen a few times where when the engine throws or two it leaves obvious or hairline cracks in the cylinders walls.
Good luck with a rebuild!
