cam

Anyone here using a comp cam. I am looking at the 12-404-4. http://www.compcams.com/catalog/082_083.html

here are the specs.-

duration- 222 intake
- 226 exhaust
lift- 0.464 intake and exhaust
lobe separtion- 114 degrees

looks good to me, i can do prom adjustments so don't worry about that. just curious what people thought that have used it.
or is there a better cam?

i feel like a cam *****, but the ZZ4 cam will work better. Its got a little more lift and i belive the durration is the same, if not a bit bigger. There cheap, and you could find one easily. Most engine builders use the ZZ4 crate motor as a base, and throw out the cam for a bigger, race type cam. Thats how i got mine. anyway, good luck with your car... wish i had a 350!

I know the ZZ4 does not have the same duration, off the top of my head I believe the ZZ4 cam only has 208 in. 221 ex duration, does have higher lift at around .473 in. .509 ex.
However this ZZ4 is a roller cam, he is talking about a flat tappet.
Anyway I think the Comp cam mentioned although it is a flat tappet and has less lift, would outperform the ZZ4 by a bit.
Just my opinion though!

I'm trying to go with a non-roller hydraulic cam because the block is a 73 model. It would prolly cost a lot more to go roller. Is the zz4 cam roller?:hail:

The ZZ4 cam is a roller cam, I am absolutely, 100 percent positive that it is definitely a roller cam!

was a ZZ-3 a non roller cam engine, I believe it was the predecessor of the ZZ-4, but it used a two piece main seal, and I think it was a 330 hp engine, I may be wrong, but knowing my luck I am definately wrong

ZZ4 = 208/221* and 474/510 lift.

I would also go w/ a bigger cam. All this depends on what else your doing w/ the car. Heads, intake, nitrous, daily drive, drag race, circle track? There is no perfect cam for everything, just different ones that work better then others in different situations (motors).
