MAX effort 350 TPI
MAX effort 350 TPI
How far can the stock TPI go? I'm getting a new harness made to convert my MAF to SD and I'm working with a good friend of mine to start burning our own chips. I have SEVERAL motors I can put this intake on to. I have a 327 350 and a 383. All of these motors are shortblocks. So I will need a cam no matter what route I go. As for heads I have 441's 882's 624's the exhaust will also be a limiting factor I can only fit block hugger style I will be running a lock-up 700 with a 2000 stall converter. The intake is totally STOCK. I dont want to have to buy a new TB or runners I'm just looking to see what you guys have gotten from a TPI in stock form. ALSO emmisions are NOT a problem and the fuel system is good to 1000 hp. Keith

Forget the 327, it turns high RPM, the TPI doesn't.
I'd go with the 383, accel manifold and SLP runners, no need for an aftermarket TB, the stock one will flow plenty.
The intake ports on the stock manifold are just too small for high HP then the runners will be the next thing that restricts.
Stock setup with a N/A engine, I'd say around 400 HP at the flywheel. The engine will need to breathe to go into big numbers.
Im sorry I need to work on being more clear. What I'm asking is if you had a STOCK intake either SD or MAF what sort of short block yould you build? the chip is unlimited but I cant put any more money into the induction system I can however get new injectors Keith

Go with the 350. The 383 is a waste for a stock TPI.
You'll have larger cubes down there, but no way to feed it through the stock base and runners.
Spend the $100 and atleast have the base ported. That's what I'm doing while I have the base off when I put my new Pro Topline heads on. The base is THE most restrictive part, followed closely by the runners.

IMO, get the plenum ported, LTR's at least, and a TPIS BM base, leave the TB. Do it right the 1st time and forget about it being stock when it has more potential modded since it's a little restrictive from the factory. Go with at least the 350. The 383 will make HIGH TQ with TPI.

Wow - everyone suggested aftermarket TPI parts. I would too, but you asked about stock. Do the 350. The 327 winds too high, the 383 wants to much air. The 350 is ideal, chevy used them huh?
Anyway, use a cam similar to the one mentioned (or buy it, he pitched a sale)... relatively low lift, and long duration is what the TPI will work best with. If you select the heads and cam carefully, I think you can grab 12.99... tho that low stall TC won't help

The only reason I'm looking towards a stock induction set up is because I'm just about out of money!! the motor in my 3rd gen is about to die and I use it for work. I have the 383 short block but it can't finish the heads just yet. I want to put the motor in a truck when the 383 is ready to be installed in the camaro. I dont want to spend a lot of money on the truck motor when the 383 still needs a great set of heads. Keith PS I e-mailed him about the cam and injectors waiting for a reply. Keith
