Some Progress Pics, TBI->TPI Motor, Commander 950 Swap

Wanted to share my progress and some pics, and ask a few questions about whats going on so far.

The car was originally an 89'RS 305TBI (L03) with 700R4.

Im swapping it over to my 355 blower motor, with TPI, performer RPM heads, XE262 Cam, Commander 950 Engine managment, and planning on running a 250 progressive shot soon.

first some pics and progress.

this is removing the fuel pump. took about two hours total.
the new pump is a walbro 255 high pressure.

this is the empty engine bay with all the old wiring harness in it...

I had to get a pin out diagram to find out where the A/C relay and fan control relay and park/neutral switch plugged into the ECM so i could use these for the commander 950's ecm. there were a few pinouts I forgot to find so now im chasing down A/C compressor wiring and knock wiring diagrams.

these are the new headers. the longtubes will link to 2 1/2 dual exhaust, run under and around the tranny, then hit two 40series flowmasters, then dump before the rear end. ground clearance should not be horrable, but it will be bad enough to warrant factory springs at the very least.

here are some intake ports that I ported. used a carbide bit on a die grinder then a dremel tool with sanding drums to smooth it out. then finnaly a wire wheel to smooth it to death.

here is my fuel rail, notice the factory regulator i blocked off (used a piece of aluminum, cut it round, drilled the holes, then used some gasket material and JBweld to seal it up.)

and the aftermarket regulator. yes it clears the runners and plenum, but not by much.

the parts to connect the aftermarket regulator like that were:

3/8NTP -> 3/8 NTP 2" long (coming out of fuel rail, crossthreded a little)
3/8 NTP -> 6AN (for return line)
2X 6AN 45* hose ends (for return line)
14MM -> 6AN Fitting (to go from factory return line to 6AN) P/n AER-FCM2240
3' of 6AN hose
2X 3/8 Pipe plug

afterpainting the entire engine gloss black.
this includes the heads, block, oil pan, water pump, pulleys, pulley brackets, etc... some parts are not shown as they have not been painted yet.

here the motor is in, and the basics begin. have to wire it up and get the ECM mounted and finish putting things onto the motor like the starter and the other bracket and the plenum and runners.. etc...

Looks great man! Are you trying to build a sleeper by painting your performer rpm heads to look stock?

you guessed it. you should also note the 250 shot is going under manifold, and coming out the back between the intake and the block. it will run back to a separate sump with a holley blue and some race fuel... and of course a remote open valve and progressive computer to slow the hit and make it seem N/A.

Some more updates...

Smog pump locked up. Had to pull it off and empty it out.
Water neck was leaking bad. Pulled it off and it was warped...
Got the wiring all in. Cant figure out how to get A/C wired up still.
Cant figure out why starter wont get 12V when i turn the key. sigh*
Distributor hit the fuel line, had to remove some metal to get it to sit still.
Had to dent in the hedman longtubes a little to get #3 cylinder plug in.
Adjusted fuel pressure to 45PSI.. accidently hit 95PSI while i was messing with it. WOW that pump is strong...
forgot about oil sending unit in back of block, so during pre-oil... well you can guess.
messed up valve cover gasket so oil went in... and went right out. all over my new headers..

Still have to change TV cable and Throttle cable. not long enough.. and i have to get the ignition switch to give my starter 12V when i turn the key. no ideas yet....

new pics tommarow.
