24# Ford Racing Injectors

I am not sure if this question has been posted before so please excuse if it has. I have read that some people have put 24# Mustang SVO injectors into their cars. I have a pair of Ford Racing 24# injectors. Would these be considered the same as the SVO injectorss??? A guy at work is telling me that the impedence between Ford injectors and GM injectors might also be different.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

(I am running these injectors on a 355TPI with World Sportsman II heads, TPIS ZZ9 cam, Roller lifters and rockers, 350 stock chip...)

Yeah, it has. About a thousand times. The SVO/Ford Motorsport injectors are high impedance injectors, just like the stock GM injectors. With GM fuel pressure (43lbs), they are equivalent to 26lb injectors, so you need to update the PROM accordingly.

Since you said you have a "pair" of them I assume you were asking if you could replace 2 of your GM injectors with them. No, as mentioned they are rated at a lower pressure for their flow numbers so mixing them with GM's will get you in trouble.

Sorry.... I meant to say that I have a set of injectors. Currently I have 19lb injectors running on a stock 350 TPI chip. The car runs alright, but it bogs a bit off the line. I know the injectors should be changed to either a balanced set of 19lb injecotrs or just upgrading to these 24# set.

How will the 24# injectors run with the stock chip. I plan on creating a custom prom next year once I figure out what is involved in doing my own programming.

Waaaaaayyyyy too rich especially SVO's since, as mentioned above, at GM's pressure they are more like 26# injectors.

Too rich, even with the ZZ9 cam and 355 displacement??
I used the formula for calculating injector size and I figured I was on target. So you would suggest 22# stock injectors with a AFPR. What about the chip. Is it alright to run with the stock chip for a while or is that something that needs to get done ASAP.

I
Since the ECM thinks you have 22# injectors and in effect you actually have 26# it will be adding fuel based on the 22# constant...through 26# injectors = tons of gas.
With that engine combo you really need to get a scanner (or software) and start burning your own chips, then you could use the 24# injectors without worry.

Awesome!! Thanks for the tips. I actually have an angle on an ODBI scanner and hope to burn chips by next spring. I will leave the 24# injectors in the box till then. But just to double check. The 24# injectors with a reprogrammed chip is definately the right way to go (right?!)

Thanks again for the advice.

Yep. that is the way to go. Not to put a damper on your "fun" but you need to get a scanner on that car to make sure it is doing ok with the stock cal and injectors, it could be running too lean or rich and cause damage.

You should try running them with the stock 305 chip. I ran so rich that black crap blew out of my tailpipes and stained my garage floor.

After about 8k miles like that, I can only wonder what shape my cat is in. :sillylol:
