look at the vin number on the engine...u should be able to tell from that...also stamped behind the flywheel (u know u want to take the time to do that ) it says 5.0/5.7 so i am told...or pull the heads off and measure the bore size...the vin number is the best bet...

How is looking at the VIN # going to tell him weather it is swapped? All that will do is tell him what the original engine was. Yeah it would help if it was originally a 350 car but I'm guessing he is wanting know if it is a 350 with it originally being a 305.

Easier way is look at the sticker under the hood, its all emission info and its says 5.0L or 5.7L.:hail:

Rear of block top drivers side, the bell housing mounting flat area. Will have cast in in big letters either 5.0L or 5.7L.

May need flashlight and some cleaner to read it.

RBob.

If the seller told you he swapped in a 350 then 99 44/100 % of the time its a 305. Sorry your to late to worry if its a 350, you are stuck with it (whatever it is ). Did you ask for any paperwork or invoices????

If you have to ask, it's probably a 305.

It won't say 5.0 or 5.7 if it is an older block. Just look at the 7 or 8 digit number on the back of the block on the drivers side just above the bellhousing. Go to any GM code website and plug in that number. The emission sticker will be of no help whatsoever because the motor may have been changed but the sticker would not have.

More 305's being sold as 350's then GM installed in 3rd gen cars.

See www.mortec.com for casting number information and pictures of locations.

We could always pull the heads off and measure it up!
