converting 305 tpi to 383 tpi or minumum 350 TPI

Hi this is the first post on this forum for me. I am not familiar with mechanics or restoring cars but gonna ask anyway. I have a stock 1987 Z28 camaro witha 305 TPI. I am wondering what setup would be easiest to swap in for the camaro 383 tpi or 350 tpi? If I can get the 383 TPI what would be a good setup for a daily driver that may or may not see a drag strip. I am changing just about everything in the car with the exception of the auto tranny and rear end( I am gonna drive it till I blow them up or what ever they are last things gonna get replaced). I also want the car to pass emissions here in South Eastern Wisconsin. Thanks for any help and advice you can give.

Welcome to thirdgen.org.

Well, since either swap will require a different block, you then need to decide on your budget.

Since you seem to want a "drop-in-and-go" thing, you'll spend more money on the 383 than the 350. Plus the TPI you currently have can run a 350 much better than it ever will on the 383.

Good luck, I realize you're just "tire-kicking" right now, but you may want to post up about your budget you want to spend and your goals (i/e tET's , etc) you wish to accomplish.

BTW, you know that your screen name is an oxymoron regarding 3rdgens/Chevy's in general?

i/e PK is short for Pony Killer... so a Pony Killer Destoryer would indicate that you are a GM destroyer (as pertaining to this board).

Okay...way more info than needs to be posted

I would consider 8Mike9 to be one of the more knowledgable people on this board. I would hardly call him "stupid". You asked for advice, and you got it (good advice at that IMO).....and a little extra, but if you stick around here long enough, you will see that's pretty much par for the course. Don't let the guys on here ruffle your feathers so easily. It might detract from what you can learn as a member of this forum.

I didn't see his first posts sorry. I just saw the one about name I thought he was some kid just commenting about a name sorry 8mike9. As far as budget I don't have one. I just want to keep engine in the street legal range. The car atm does not run and needs just about everything. Another question is will this Engine be easy for a novice to put together or will I need to call up an engine shop to put one together for me? I got lots of time to learn and put this car together.
