has anyone ever tried to retrofit a ls1 cold air lid into a thirdgen in place of the stock air intake?

Fatal88 has. But, his car has a whole 4thgen front clip (from firewall to core support) with 3rdgen fenders and bumper hanging on the 4thgen clip. Not to mention, he has a LS-1 in there too!

Extending on this topic, why are there no aftermarket airlids for our dual snorkel intakes? I find it hard to believe the stock lid is optimally designed.

No s*** 1bad91, I am one of the people awaiting your ABS plastic ram air boxes
Get those made!!!
I want them! lol.
I see. So basically it is true then that with cut airboxes and true ramair, the stock dual snorkel intake is good for very serious numbers?

I brought the measurements / design to a metal fab shop and they fabbed them up for me. I'm currently making sets of these boxes out of ABS plastic for several board members. But dont reply to this thread about that. PM me if you need more information.
Yes, with lower filter housing to grill ducts and gutted lower filter housing, the TPI air lid setup can supply plenty of air for a healthy small block.
Someone here on Thirdgen.org did a test a long time ago with something similar and the guys car only lost like 3 - 5 rwhp with the air lid setup vs. no lid at all (open throttle body). Which I think is great, because a Firebird typically loses ALOT more when their air filter piping / snorkle is attached VS. open Throttle body.
