Vortec TPI

I finished my motor the other day its a L98 with mild port and polished vortec heads, with SD base, SLP runners, 52mm Tb, #24 svo's, comp cams XR269HR-12 cam, edelbrock headers with SLP cat back, other small mods. I had a custom chip burned and the car runs real strong. It lost some bottom end power but gained some nice power in the 2500-6000 range it pulls nice. I ran it at the track last night and I had a best of 13.4@107mph with a 2.4 60ft. I think my problem is that I still have my stock 3:27s in my 9 bolt with the t56. Any one who is thinking of doing the vortec swap should do it. With a better 60ft what do you think the car would run?

Most impressive my friend....................

Gotta find some traction, that MPH should get you down into the 12.5 range with no problem at all.

Get some tire back there and all will be well.

how much if at all do you think that the 3:27 gears with the six speed hurt my time? The 9bolt is way to expensive to build. I am thinking 3:73 would be sweet.

How deep into the Rs is the motor when you cross the traps?

A 2.4 60' is tragic.

You can easily shave .2 off that 60' and run a 13.0 - 13.1

You can get your 60' to 1.9 probably, but it will take very good feathering into the launch w/ street tires.

You car can clip 12.8 no problem, just need some traction!

I cross the line in 4th at like 3800 or if I shift at 6200 in each gear I just shifted into 4th when crossing the line, that run I only ran 104 top speed. If I slip the clutch on the launch I can get it to catch but it lags 1st gear then rips. I think 3:73 would help alot because the motor loves tack out. I think I need some suspension work and tires to get better traction.

More gear, you need to be shifting at about 5600rpm and crossing the traps at about that as well.

Ya I only tried shifting that high to see what would happen. I think with 3:73 and shifting at about 5600 i should end in 4th at about 5600. I think the car would be a little faster with a better gear and I think it would help the 60ft am I right?

I think because of the TPI ( already touchy for launches ) the steeper gear is going to hurt your consistancy. I too am going to run a LTR set up woth the 3.73 this season ..... but I expect a big learning curve for the launches....due to either excessive spin...... or bawgging it of the line .

Ya it is hard to launch. The car ran consistant 13.6 with good 60' like 1.9 and 2.0 with the auto, once the I put in the T56 i ran nothing better that 14.0 1/4's.

I got 3.73s behind my 700R4.

Got a 385 Superram motor.

I cross the traps in the deep 5000s and pull 113.5mph.

I think that gear would be perfect for your stick car with a 26" slick.

What would be the best slick to buy for the money for my car? I plan on getting rid of the 3:27 soon.
