What's the max HP and TQ i can expect from my internally stock L98??
I have done every "trick" i know to squeeze every ounce of HP out of this motor. I think it was rated at 245HP and 345TQ from the factory. Im running stock plenum and runners, 52mm throttle body.
i got a ram-air set up through the foglight housing, and newer injectors from Accel (factory specs).
other mods:
-AFPR
-8.8 wires
-MSD box
-custom prom
-Edelbrock Headers
-3" Y pipe no (no cats)
-exhaust cut-out
-4:10 gears (posi)
-stock tranny with shift kit
-smog delete
-A/C delete
Ive also added SFC's and traction/lift bars, along with 90/10 struts and 50/50 shocks. i lightened the car and relocated the battery to the trunk.
3560 lbs. with me in it
Im running consistant 13.60's with this set up. I know my gears and suspension mods are making this thing quick outta the hole.(1.90 average 60' time)
I guess 285 HP and similar TQ.
Is my TQ curve from the long tube runners helping me with the TQ on the low end and getting me out of the hole better? Would a after market runner help? Will i sacrifice low end TQ for upper RPM HP? Can this car hit low 13's without going internal?

Yes, the stock intake setup (base and runners) is a lower-to midrange intake, you'll have to figure that what ever to trade for the top-end, you'll lose down low.
Once you begine to make HP and tq in the mid to upper RPM range, you need to compensate the lack of lowend with a decent stall converter...then you keep the "holeshot", and have the power to pull you through th RPM band.\
Mid-13's is a very impressive, only a few L98's in your trim see those ET's, give yourself a pat on the back

I figured i was at my limit with this motor. It took me a long time to break that 14.00 barrier. I'll keep pushing her till i need to rebuild. Thanks

IMHO your gear ratio is to low for a stock TPI engine and your 700R4. I think you would be much better served with a gear ratio some where around 3.45 or so instead of the 4.10. Allen

I tried different gear ratios. The stock 3.42's ran .3 tenths slower than the 3.73's, and the 4.10's run .2 better than the 3.73's... This was all done before the suspension mods, but i think the 4.10's take advantage of my torque curve. This car is faster with the lower gears... trust me. I have tried 5 different rear end combo's..............
I know a stall will help, but they are pricey for the 700R4 and im worried i will break something in the rear end if i hook up too well.
What about roller rockers with a bigger ratio?? Will this help? Will the new parts be harder on my valve train than the old "broke in" parts??.. I want this motor to last as long as it can.... i could always reuse the rockers if i blow the motor though.
The exhaust cut-out im using is a baffle with a 1" hole. When i uncork it fully with a 3" hole, it feels like a dog. Does a TPI need a little backpressure?

COME ON 'NAM.... The perceived loss of power is all in your head. Send me a PM, and I'll give you a ride in a REAL camaro (once I get the new oil pan gasket installed), lol!
p.s. What happened to your white IROC that you had back in the day?
*edit* Think p'd LT1 regal.....

Hey gixxer, Are you running slicks to get those 1.6 60 footers? Thats pretty good. Im in the 1.9's on street meats. I power brake it till 1500 and release the brake while i gradually floor it. If i get too anxious and floor it too soon im in the 2.2's.....
I gotta see this Camaro you got Hess-dog. I remember your dads when i was a kid, I thought it was the baddest car around. I remember you saying it ran 12's.. now i know you were B.S' ing me..lol
How hard is it to swap in some roller rockers and springs? Do i need guide plates or something?

I use Drag Radials at the track. I said that my dads car ran in the 13's, which it did, but I'm pretty sure I never said it was in the 12's, but that was back in 89-92 so I can't remember for sure, lol! he had some of the original Edelbrock intake pieces for it. Do you remember how that thing would get sideways at 30mph?

have you done any of the el cheapo, might give you a few HP mods? Throttle body coolant bypass? Airfoil on the throttle body? Clean it out, run some sea form or something through the intake to clean it up a bit, smoother flowing air can increase response times and power a tiny bit(not a little), and for the $4 or $5 that it costs it can't hurt.
Other than that, see if you can find some race gas and give it a try and see what you run.

You need to get some slicks if your experience wheel spin off the line right there your losing a few tenths because your feathering it out of the hole.
A stock TPI has all its power band from 1200 to 4500 rpms if you stall up high(with a high stall) like some people say and your going to really hurt your time. The horse power that motor produces falls after 4500 substantially..
Have you ported your plenum yet?? there is a huge speed bump there.
Have you modified your MAF sensor??
Are you running with a K&N ?
Getting your car dynoed would be nice
The only people who want you to believe that your car makes more power with some back pressure are the muffler manufacturers..
