Need some quick cheap power...

This guy with a Mustang challanged me to a race today. I NEED to beat him. Right now I doubt I could. Ive beaten a Mustang before, but he didnt know how to drive it. Anyway, what kind of cheap(Very cheap) things could I do to increase my chances of beating him. I'm taking the belt off for smog pump and for A/C, but what else can I do? Please help me out here, oh yeah, I'm swapping in some 3.73 gears. I already have POSI, but I dont know what gears I have. Anyone know how I can find out?

Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. Used $15, new 30-75. Do some of the free mods in the tech articles.

Better YET, Come down here to Decatur and borrow my Camaro. He will never have a chance to beat you then!

Find the third one down called 'Common First Mods'. This includes some free ones, plus some that will cost some cash, but they are helpful.

i wonder if the guys in Japan ever have to overnight parts from Detroit...

person who started the thread:

you need to go faster.
you have no money.

you're not going much faster.
you can tune and tweek what you have, but dont expect massive gains.
you could buy a nitrous kit and go faster
you could spend a ****load on TPI parts and go slightly faster
you could get a diffrent manifold system, then retune and tweek everything

or you could just save your money, dont race anyone, and take the time to plan out and build a fast car.
if you dont want to do that, i suggest you dont race it unless its a bracket type race.

well nitrous kits are probably the biggest bang for the buck but they aren't exactly cheap. start with the free mods, then find the tech article that talks about shaving weight in your car. You can try some of that if you have the cash. Make sure you know how to launch your car right to get the full power out of it with as little wheel spin as possible. If you're getting wheel spin, buy a set of BFG drag radials. make us proud and send that rustang packin...

According to the power figeures that I found the mustangs only put out 225 at the wheels. The LXs were a little slower because they used iron heads and had more options and were therfore heavier. Where in the state are you located (cardinal directions)? If it is close enough I would be willing to help you out.

I know I need money. I'm not planning on making the IROC a race car, I just want to beat this guy, I just dont want to spend much cash making THIS car go fast. The 84 will be my go fast car. This is just a daily driver, but it's the only thing running right now. I know they have 225 hp at the flywheel stock. He says he's got a little better than stock, so I gave him the extra 25hp. It's a GT. He has the weight advantage and always will. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago.

just get a nitrous kit, run it. Beat the mustang then swap it to the race car.

Go buy a nitrous kit on your mom's credit card. Then race the 'stang for slips and when you win, sell the stang to some crackhead for really cheap. Then you can pay your mom back for the nitrous and still have some money left to buy a new engine after that "100 shot of NOS blows the welds of the intake. NOw the mad scientist has to tear apart the block to replace the piston rings you fried". Sorry, I just can't resist a chance to quote that lame movie...

Seriously, gears, freemods, and a good hookup should help you. You could try to score some better rear tires, maybe a friend has some to sell used or let you borrow.

Even if you lose, don't let it get you down, just save up for some more serious stuff and blow his doors off...

You forgot about a new floorboard too

I agree, get a nitrous kit, all other ways wont net you much of a noticable gain..

Hmm...I thought about the nitrous. How much do they cost? Thats a good idea to buy it and save it to use on the other car. Dunno if I could get the money though. I dont live with mom anymore...so that's out. And I've borrowed too much cash from people. I might be able to scrounge up the money though.

Figure $600, typically $550 for system + $10 shipping + $40 to fill bottle
