Thanks for the help.

What is trowing me out is that line in the middle of the distributor.. The way it is positioned when i look at that line from the front looks like 1 pm .

But if that line is the middle then all of the wires were not connected properly..

If i were to judge it by the two fastners at the bottom it still appears that that line is in the 12 pm position.

When you have the distributor set in there. Have the connectors at the rear pointing straight towards the firewall and the #1 cylinder post on the cap will be at the 5 o'clock position.

Currently the connectros are pointing at 1pm and that line is pointing same way.

If i assume that that line/connectors should be 12 oclock them in the above picture that one connector without the wire should be cylinder #1, right??

AFAIK, the actual location of each plug wire on the cap isn't as important as their relation to each other. AKA - If the engine is at #1 TDC firing, and the rotor is pointed to terminal "a", where "a" is no particular terminal, then as long as terminal "a" is wired to #1 cylinder, and the rest of the wires follow around in order, thats all that really matters.

I think that the picture Trickster posted more or less just shows the firing order around the cap and not really where each plug wire needs to be.

Steck....what you say is true from a workability standpoint. However, GM established LONG ago that there needed to be a common reference for where #1 goes, so that you don't have to pull up the cap and put #1 on TDC compression every time you need to change your plug wires.

Typically, the tower nearest the #1 cylinder is the #1 tower. Viewed from the front of the engine, it's the terminal nearest the 5 o'clock position.

True, ie: you could rotate your distributor to any position you want, and simply move the wires around also to compensate. It would still work. However assuming the distributor is in the normal position, then trickster's diagram shows the actual terminals each wire should be on. I always set mine up this was since it's the way they came when new.

I took the car back to GM dealer and told them that the car seems like it has no guts.

I told him to recheck the timing, etc,, The service manager then told me that when him mechanic tried to adjust the base timing he unpluged the wrong wire. So i think the problem lies there but i have to wait till tomorrow to really find out.
