camaro airbox on a firebird?

Hey im converting from carb. to tpi on my trans am. I just wanted to know if i could use a camaro airbox on my T/A? If i do get one do i have to make cut outs in the area between the radiator and the nose? I dont like the factory air ducting for the firebird and i dont want to move my evap canister to the other side along with my battery. I have a MAF system so i cant just bolt the filter to the throttle body like a SD system, and i cant afford a ram air hood to fit a ram air box right now. Any suggestions? Thanks,

sorry dude but i dont think it is possible to get a camaro air box to fit a 'bird without some major cutting to the radiatior support. the bird has a much lower hood line and the nose is supported by a big metal pan that is welded to the radiator support. it woudl be way easier and much less of a hack job if you just used some 3 inch ducting and made your own cold air intake. many on here have done it, just do a search.

Wont work.

If you dont like the factory setup, create some sort of CAI with 3" pipe.

Exactly what I am going to do. Going to use PVC pipe to get it setup, and either just paint the PVC or cut and weld a metal setup instead, but only downside there is heat soak...

Ok thanks for the responses guys. Do you think i can get away with leaving the canister and battery alone or do i have to move them?

I am leaving both of mine alone. I am just running the PVC the same routing as the stocker, just bending it at the end down w/ a K&N cone filter on the end...

I set one up in my car just the other day. Removed the pan that held the old stock airbox and evap canister and ran a 3.5" pipe to a 4" x 9" K&N cone filter and cut a hole right where the old box was to fit it down to suck in cold air. I forced the evap canister in the corner held in by the intake tubing. If I can get some better pics, I will post them.

Oh, and the K&N sounds sweet

This shows how much of it is below the car sucking in cold air.

Using this setup, my manifold air temps dropped 25-30*F from 122-124*F to 96*F. Those first temps were even with a slightly modified stock airbox to allow in some cool air. I haven't checked the temps when moving, but I'm assuming its going to be even lower when driving on highway, etc.

The intake is stock from the TB to the MAF, and then I have the rubber hose connecting the PVC pipe section to the MAF. I will eventually make this look better once I switch to SD-MAP and the LT1 intake.

Cool, Im trying to do the same thing but without having to swap my battery and evap. canister. Maybe have the filter run to a little bit before the Battery, any suggetstions?
