What is the correct Timing?

Can anyone tell me what the correct timing is for a 1987 5.7L TPI GTA is? The car has a separate coil, and is running a 700R-4. It is fully loaded including digital dash and A/C. The motor has been rebuilt, to as close to shock as possible. 30 over, stock cam 10/10 crank etc.

Base timing should be 6 degrees.

Factory base timing is 6 yes, but w/ motor, use as much as you can w/o pinging...

Is that base timing with or without closed loop?

Ok thanks again

Thanks again.

My wire harness is made by "Painless" and it is a closed loop type.

I disconected the tan wire with the black strip at the computer and set the bass timing at 8' B.T.D.C.

I'm not sure if my Throttle Position Sensor is set correctly, if it is not will the timming still be correct? Or does the Throttle Position Sensor have to be adjusted correctly before I can get the timing correct?

The two are not connected. Have to really rev some before the module advance comes on with the timing set connector unhooked. Just let it idle and check timing.
