Ditching 89 exhaust

I'm planning to replace my rusty exhaust manifolds with headers and it would seem 2 and half or 3 inch is the defacto 3rd gen choice for performance pipes but I also don't think I'll be upping engine internals for a bit (SLP is a strong contender for the parts)... What are some other good, proven choices for the L98 staying mostly stock. Can I get pipes that would work under both conditions? Stock and then slightly modded for higher HP? I'm thinking the most useful HP range for me is low end torque as my car seems quite capable of speeds 60 or faster, unfortunetly, no autobahn near here

I have a mufflex 4 inch exhaust just so you know that it exhists. I also have the slp's 1 3/4 inch headers Its a cool little job because you will probably have manifold bolts break and some and a few of the headers will interfere with the brackets where you will have to do a lil grinding or cutting so they are not to interfere with the tubes.
The exhaust system alone isnt going to help you break any records. Find an exhaust note you like on any 3rd or 4th gen and get it for your self.

Exhaust tone is not a priority but I want to open up any restrictive breathing imposed at the TPI inlet or the pipe section, just a hair above the factory so I keep the fuel efficiency.
I'm particularly interested in stainless steel to keep from replacing them time and time again. My waterpump is rusty too but doesn't seem to be a leak culprit

Hedman ceramic coated shorties, they keep underhood temperature down and are great for a stock or modded engine. I looked at 1 3/4 or full length but the gains are minimal. 3 inch exhaust is what you want.

I have the hooker log tubes and then I went to an exhaust shop and paid $50 to have a TRUE dual exhaust set-up made that I can take down in three min. For $50 it can not be beaten, or out flowed.

is the $50 custom job something you go to a Hectors muffler shop and beer store, or can a Midas do it "on the down low"?

I have the factory dual cat setup that isn't two pipes front to back but would still like to maintain the factory pipe placement on a budget. Post any pics and prices too. This is something I will address a little later, as my pipes are still functioning for now.

I do not have any pics of the set up to scan right now. The price only includes pipe, hangers, and labor. It was an actuall "race" shop I went to also, so I do not know what kind of a job midas would do. What do I have to gain from making that up?

Midas might set you up with Walker pipes, and they rusted right up on me.
