400 (pont) TPI possible
Does anyone know if they make a lower intake manifold to fit a pontiac 400 so that it can be fitted with a Tuned Port Injection setup. And if so what else would need to be changed along with the lower manifold? To give a little background info I"ve got an 81 trans am I"m putting a TPI in (it has a 350 from a 74 truck). Unfortunately I'm not running cats or the OE emissions so NH law won't let it pass an inspection anywhere ( well not anywhere
) So i'm looking into a '79 Trans Am where I won't need anything as far as emissions goes. And to make it a little easier on myself (rather than swapping, exhaust, radiator, engine mounts, transmission bell housing, etc) I was wondering if they made anything to mount the TPI to a pontiac 400. Thanks in advance for any input on this one.

not gonna happen
pontiac 400's are totally different from a small block chevy. its gonna take a whole new custom made base manifold to fit a 400 pontiac. and no one makes one that i am aware of.

Try Holley or Edelbrock. They now make EFI manifolds for all type of cars.

that's what I was wondering. (hence I asked the question because I know the lower manifolds aren't anywhere near the same). I've checked out Edelbrock and have had no success. I work in a parts store and I close quite often so I have enough free time to do alot of research on this kind of stuff. But I wasn't able to find much. I was just interested in seeing if anyone else had had the same idea. I'll post back if I find anything.

Try looking at a High Performance Pontiac mag. There are alot of shops that maybe able to help you out. It is a long shot but atleast it is a start.

Did the 301 survive into 1981? If so, that can be your distributor.
Fuel injector rails are going to be the tough part from what I see, you could perhaps use a CCC Q-jet as the throttle body, or, a TBI off of a car or truck.
Just some thoughts...I'd like to convert my Olds to EFI at some point, no real easy/cheap way to do it.

Check this out: http://www.customefis.com/portefi.html
If he can do it for an AMC, why not Pontiac? It states "Prices for my custom port EFI systems vary, but typically are $1500-1700 depending on the availability of the intake manifold for your engine and the type engine you have."
That is a complete price, E-mail him and see if an special packages can be worked out if you already have some of the components, like ECM and harness from a donor car.
Good luck, Ed.

thanks for your replies. I've been putting some effort into a TPI setup over the past 6 months and that's what I was hoping to get to work. It doesn't look that promising but I thought it was worth the investigation. I'm still not sure what I plan on doing. I'm still trying to see if NH will pass my vehicle (no OE emissions but newer emissions, but no air pump or cats). Even if I put the cats on I've been told I probably won't pass but I want to pass it by the state official in charge of all this. I can get stickers easily enough but I prefer to try to run legally as much as possible. Its either that or I'm gunna go looking for a 79 or older car. I do appreciate all the responses so far. Thanks I'lll keep all of you up dated as I keep on searching
