TPI Wiring Help?

I have a 86 Z28 when i bought the car it allready had a 350 in it and it used to be a 305 (lg4). The previous owner has removed most of the engine wiring harnes all the engine contorl relays and such. I just bought a 350 TPI set up but it dosn't have a wiring harnes with it and i was looking at a painless harness. I have the Whole top TPI assemlby, ecm, and distributor. What other parts or sensors or relays do I need. And is the painless kit the best way to go ?

Painless would be the way, as compared to an old crappy salvage yard, or used harness. Using the Painless, would be a simplified installation. Do a search on the other things needed. Im sure youll find out what you are looking for!

Rusty.....depends on what you want to get into.....From what i understand the painless harness is basically just for the fuel injection so alot of the wiring acessesories will be missing..... ie.air conditioning (if you have it) etc..... I'de call them and make sure, and ask alot of questions first......speartech will make the whole harness up for you but it does get kinda pricey, not sure what kinda budget you have, but an option.

I could build you a brand new TPI harness to your specs. I use the same wire and connectors as Painless and I test every harness on my 350 TPI test engine running on a test stand before sending them out. I've built many thirdgen harnesses...even a few for members here. Email me at mike@s10wildside.com if you're interested. I'll need to know, in detail, what you need. If you're looking for a stand alone harness (like Painless), I've been selling basically the same thing for less. Painless harnesses are nice, but I don't like where they put some of the relays and I also don't like that their shrink tubing doesn't collapse completely around some wires (like at the fuel injectors). They also combine the two injector banks and igntion power into one fuse. I prefer to keep them as three separate circuits as is done with the factory TPI harness. I'm using the same wire colors as the factory harness so you could do any future troubleshooting in a factory service manual without getting confused.

I can also provide a plug and play solution near the ECM at the 15-way I/P connector. Painless requires you to splice these wires to your vehicle's harness. I need more specifics about your car first.

If I remember correctly, David, the Painless harness we used on the dyno had everything. I remember that there were a few wires tucked out of the way that were not being used. I could be wrong though. Im sure if Rusty gives Painless a holler, they can shed some light.

Yours could of Brutal , but if i remember right when i did this swap a couple of years ago the way the guy at painless explained it to me that some of the wiring wasn't there. Not 100% sure but 95%.

This is exactly the reason I decided to go with a used factory harness for my conversion. Painless could probably sell tons more of their harnesses if they made them more complete for specific applications. Unless you're a wiring expert, it's damn hard to figure out what their harnesses will work with going by the scant amount of details they give in parts catalogs. In my opinion, it's easier to repair a few bad spots in a used harness than to try and figure out how to make an "incomplete" aftermarket harness work.

Buy a used (factory) wiring harness for your application (S/d or MAF, whatever the case may be). You'll save quite a sum of money and be able to keep any accessories that may use the stock harness (AC/Emissions, whatever). Me...I built my own. All it takes is a little patience and studying some schematics, nothing anyone else coudln't do.
