Is there anyone who went from SD to MAF?

Reason I ask is I know that with maf cars, unless your putting out over 325hp, it's way more forgiving and accepting of mods over SD?

So I just want to know if it would be worthwhile since I don't plan on getting that much HP anytime soon but I plan on modding and don't have access to a chip burner nor the time to tune with chips and risk blowing my engine.

So let me know the pros and cons, and the cost.

Thankyou!!

If you already have a MAF I see no need to switch to speed density at the power levels you are talking about. I'm at an estimated 380HP(304RWHP) and VincentZ28 is putting down more power than I'am and he is running a MAF.

Now on the flip side we are both wondering at these power levels if the MAF is a restiction. Right now my 52MM throttle body and MAF are running about the same CFM. I'm currently getting ready to put on a Holley 58MM throttle body and will see if there are any improvements in power and/or track time. If there is then the MAF is the next to go as that will be the weak spot in my intake system. Stay tuned. Allen

No I have SD. How tolerable of mods is MAF? I've read that you pretty much need to burn a chip every time you do something with SD.

So in my situation, would it be worth the trouble? Like I said, I don't want to have to burn and re-burn chips all the time.

Don't convert to MAF from SD...you will want to burn chips for your combo to get it running right...depending on your mods, you shouldn't have to deviate TOO far from a stock chip with a typically modded combo.

I would check out the DIY PROM board for more info. Don't be scared of the reading

I have been running stock programming on my 383 cube, super rammed nitrous injected car for 13 years with no issues. I do not care to pay hundreds of dollars to a chip burner. Mail order or dyno tune. Having a family, personal time and business to run, *I* do not care to devote the time and resources needed for the perfect tune. My car runs better than most and lays down quick et's with the stock mass air system. If you can spend little and do a saturdays work on the conversion , I am one of the rare few that thinks it is a wise move. Good luck either way.

The title of the topic is switch from a MAP system to a MAF system...I am sure I got it right.

...and I still state that I wouldn't switch from SD to MAF just to try and avoid burning a few chips as a shortcut to tuning.

Hopefully that better sums up my position on the subject

You have to burn chips for both to get them close to perfect.

I wouldn't do it, with all that's involved with the swap, you could have burned 20-30 chips and had it tuned already
