Anybody with 87 to 89 Pontiac TPI -> need help

I've got a 1987 GTA that came originally with the v-belt setup. I had a shop use the serpentine setup off of a later model thirdgen and I added the air intake off of a 1988 Trans Am. Problem is that the air conditioner compressor is rubbing the rubber tubing (and wearing it down).

To me, there's not much clearance there for this rubber tube, however I have noticed some differences between my engine bay and others with 88-89 Pontaic TPIs

a) I don't have the metal bracket (shown is one of the following pictures)...does this server a purpose? Could it help my rubbing problem?

b) My radiator shroud is from the 1987 setup and might have some protruding plastic it doesn't need. Does anyone know if there are any differences?

Two pics forthcoming. One with the bracket circled and one with the area that is rubbing circled. Not my car on either pic - just examples.

The bracket holds the MAF in place and is attached to the MAF by two bolts. This is what keeps the intake assembly away from the belts and accessories. Can't answer your radiator question.

Yes I beleive that metal bracket keeps the intake tubing off of the serpentine. I deleted it with the MAF when I did the conversion to MAP on my 89. So far the radiator shroud has done a good job of keeping my intake tube off of the accessories. However, if you're having a problem with it you should get one. I can sell you my old one for a very low price if you PM me.

The bracket you are refering to is designed to hold the intake tube against the radiator there is no bracket that hold the MAF sensor the 87's came with a square intake tube not round like yours they fit against the radiator quite nicely...Unfortunately not ideal for air flow if you need pics of either setup (or of a custom setup mage from 4" PVC pipe) let me know I have 2 MAF and 2 speed density

Yes it bolts directly to the MAF. The point is to hold the intake tube away from the fanbelt, and it does so by mounting to the MAF.

These screws:

mount to these holes on the bracket:

My old 87 it didn't bolt directly to the maf it bolted to the plastic box above the maf. I assume the later ones were different.

In '87 the MAF was mounted off the airbox IIRC.

You guys rock. I've already ordered these parts from Hawks (sorry guy who would have sold 'em to me - I would have bought 'em if I had waited):

Metal bracket for 88 - 89
New radiator shroud for 88 - 89
All bolts to attach MAF to metal bracket

I guess I didn't say it, but I used the Air intake setup off of an 88 transam, and it never came with the metal bracket.

Thanks guys!
