TPI car not starting

http://nefbody.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=12999#12999

thats the car I jsut got and all I need to do is get it to crank and she is ready to go. I turn the key and nothing happens. But it has full power. It started fine, drove it home from the dealer, went to start again and NOTHING. Anyone have any ideas? I am thinking the starter (it jsut had ALL of the electrical parts replaced by GM dealership) maybe they didn't tighten down the power cable or ground or something.

Check your solenoid, alterantor connections, and battery connections. Clean all the connections bercause it only takes minor corrosion to not work sometimes, make sure they are all tight as well. Mine wouldn't start with some corrosion on the battery terminal.

Does it have the pellot in the key? If so is the security light staying on with the key forward?

it could also be a fusable link. i've had that problem before. there are two or three of them in the starting circuit. i think the ignition wire has one. this could cause the symptoms you describe as well.

OK, so it took me MUCH longer to get the car home than anticipated. I have checked all the fuses, they are fine. Alternator connections were fine. Security light is off when I try to start. All the connections "look" good. Any idea's? If fuseable links could you by any chance take pics of what they would look like so I can compare on my car?

The kid I baught the car off of drove it home from the dealer (having the maf and a few other things replaced) parked it, went to go to the store and it would not turn over. Still that way with me.

The security light should come on and shut off when you turn the key forward. If its not doing this you have a vats issue. Search under vats for more info.

ok, I jsut checked through the slips. new alternator, new starter, new starter wire, new wire from battery to alternator.

I put the key forward and the only 2 lights that go on are SES and the seatbelt light. I put the key to the start position and the seatbelt light goes off and the brake light goes on.

a friend of mine said it is probably an ignition wire, judging by the same thigns I have told you.

Not sure if this helps any but the fuel pimp primes when i put the ignition on.

I really hope I can figure out what is wrong, I really really want to drive my new car

oh ya, and when I turn the key all the way forward to the start position there is definitly a voltage drop. Not sure if that helps any either.

Ok so back to my original Question, do you have a pellot in the key or is it just a regular key? With no security light this could be a vats issue if the car does have it.

Start by checking the connections to the block and starter, make sure they are clean and tight.

There is no VATS on an '88 Camaro.

Sorry your right, im just in a gta frame of mind i guess.

The Pass-Key VATS system was standard equipment on the 1988 GTA Trans Ams. The system was not available on any other F-Body model in '88.

The GTA was the first F-Body model to have it after the system debuted on the Corvette and reduced thefts for that marque by some 30%.

The VATS system availability was expanded in 1989 to include the rest of the F-Body lineup.
