stupid question about injectors

if the tips of my injectors are fouled, would i still get good ohms readings on them. could this also cause my car to idle rough backfire during excelleration, and have a loss of power.

yes.
Run some fuel injector cleaner thru your fuel system. You should do this every 3 months.

injectors don't foul, spark plugs do. and yes, it will not change the electrical portion of the injector if it is partially or even completely plugged.
they can get dirty, and injector cleaner will help, the best I have found is made by CONKLIN, it's called "4-Power", very good stuff. you have to become a distributor or buy it from a local distributor, let me know if you have problems getting it. check www.conklin.com and go to the automotive chemicals division.

backfire during accel could be ignition related, bad spark plug wires, cap, rotor, plugs, ect.
I have noticed(that it's more noticeable when it's wet out), if you are maintaining a 50 mph or so speed on a slight hill, a miss is normally caused by bad plug wires. some people mistake this for a trans slip.

check the wires cap and rotor first.
I really need more info for a better answer though.

i'll give you a breakdown on exactly what happened. about 2 weeks ago it rained really bad here and i got water in my intake. my car stalled but it started up again. that's when it started idleing rough. it backfires in the medium rpm range and wont accelerate. there is also a ticking noise coming from the engine that gets faster as the rpms go up.

i have replaced the plugs, wires, dirstributor cap, rotor, coil, ignition control module, removed the valve covers to check the rocker arms, springs and lifters and found no problem. i have run 2 bottles of sea foam through the fuel system, and i'm quite sure there is no water in the system. i have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator but i'm only running it at 42 psi. \

before this happened i replaced the tps. i have not yet replaced the iac. i checked the noise i reffered to earlier with a stethescope and it is the loudest on the right side fuel rail.

i'm really getting frustrated. i'm not sure what to do now

can you isolate which cylinder has the miss by disconnecting the injectors and/or plug wires to see which one DOESN'T make a difference?

how does a hard rain get water in the intake?
you mean like 3 feet of water?

i will try to isolate it tommorrow morning. i've got 8 new injectors now and i will probably replace them tommorrow anyways.

to answer your question about the water. i've got a homemade cold air intake. i cut a hole through the wheel well and hooked up my air filter there. i live in tx. in the months of aug to mid sep it doesnt' rain hardly at all. i didn't think that not putting a by=pass valve in right away would be a big problem. because of the hurricanes in florida we've had some crazy weather here. i had no clue that the street i turned down would be flooded. it's never rained here like that. but the water came up over my tires.

lesson learned: when you install an intake like this always put in a by=pass valve.

i will let you know about what i find out about the injectors tommorrow, but i think i will replace them all anyways.

thanks for the help\

I had a grand am once that had a blown head gasket and filled the cylinder with coolant. the customer didn't know that, and started the motor, it fired on another cylinder and tried to start but wouldn't.
long story short, I replaced the head gasket and got it running, but had a ticking noise, found out it bent a connecting rod and the piston was hitting the counterweight on the crank at bottom dead center.
I hope your motor didn't swallow enough water to hurt something.

if the noise quits or changes when removing a plug wire(obviously while it's running), it's usually a problem with that cylinder.

and I've heard about the texas rains, my brother lives in Houston.
sorry about your predicament.

Had a 92 Chrysler that I took water in the intake with. Torential downpour on unfamiliar roads... End story, two bend rods and a few bent pushrods. Got a complete rebuild and the insurance company paid for it! Said it was covered under the flood portion of the auto policy.
