No start situation ( sometimes (

Hi guys,
I have a little problem with my car: Some history first : I swapped my original 305 engine for a 350 and my 870 computer for a 165 one. I changed my wiring and burned my own chip... and now my problem starts : I tried 2 different "bins", one $32B ( ABWT ) and one $6E ( APYU ). Iīm using Flash-EEPROMS ( AT29C256 ). I changed the "fan-on temperature" from 225 to 210 ( cause I have a 180 stat instead of the 195 stat ) and I delete the code "36" ( mass-burnoff-cycle ) and the "vats". Most of the time, my car starts fine and runs great, but from time to time I canīt get it started. It cranks fine, but no start. Seems like "vats enabled", donīt know if spark or fuel is missing. Right now, my car is sitting 10 miles away, cause I couldnīt get it run again. I tried to unplug my MAF and I tried to unplug my Ignition ( the plug for setting the base-ignition ). What could be the reasons for the random "no-start" situation ??? ( Donīt know, If this is the right forum, perhaps you should move it to the right one )
Thanks, Uwe

NEED TO CHECK FOR SPARK AND FUEL PRESSER FIRST.I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 89 FORMULA AND I FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE WAS THE ECM.IT WAS NOT READING THE SPARK REF.FROM THE DISTRIBUTER CAUSING NO SPARK.

Is the fuel pump running? I had the same problem and it was my fuel pump relay going bad, I hotwired it for a day until I got a new one and then the little hard to find fuse blew. There's a fuse, looks like a plug with a cap on it, next to the battery, it was blown. Put a new relay and fuse in and no more problems. Just an easy thing to check. Need to check fuel and spark to.

In addition to the fuel pump relay, I would also replace the oil pressure switch.

Okay, no-start-situation today : I checked for spark ( with a timing light ) : No spark !!! - My fuelpump is okay, I hooked up a pressure-guage and it reads fine ( doesnīt mean that my injectors are firing ). After I disconnected my battery for an hour, I could start my car without problems. Could this be ECM-related or should I replace my ignition-module ? ( By the way, if I disconnect the 4-wire-connector between the distributor and the ECM, should I get spark or not ? )

Still the same problem !!! - Today again no-start-situation ! - Normally my fuelpump primes for 2 seconds every time I turn ignition on. But now it doesnīt ( I have to wait exactly 12 seconds between ignition-on to hear the fuel-pump ). I have no spark and no fuel ( pressure-guage shows nothing). Hooked up another ECM with the old chip ... same result. With no chip installed the fuel-pump primes everytime I turn the key ( but still no start, perhaps this is okay with no chip inside ). I think tomorrow everything is allright again ( battery unhooked overnight ). The last modifications were the ECM-swap, wiring-change and a new distributor ( complete with coil and ignition-module ) - Iīm lost now, no ideas any more !

No start this morning ( the battery was disconnected over night ). I did some testing and after I disconnected the tach-filter, wow, the car started !!! - Is this a common problem or was I just lucky ?
