need help bad.....

new to 3rd gen camaro, not to chevy. I have a 86 TPI, was 305 now roller cam 350. motor is new, 89 vett cam, R/R arms, 925:1 pistons, gear drive, 24lb injectors, hypertech chip, for 350 TPI (used dont know year/model of chip) Car will start (vary poor/no idel) runs ok @ 2000/higher RPM, runs poorly til then, but if you let die, will not start untill it cools off (has good spark, weak/no injector pulse until cooled) any and all help needed. if more info is needed let me know. thanks, joe

First Off, find out more about that chip. It could be for a 91 SD system when you have MAF or vise versa. Could be for a vette or something else. Second, a gear drive is a nono on cars with knock sensors.. It will trigger the Knock sensor to retard timing. 24lbs injectors will run too rich with the hypertech chip because its set for 22lbs injectors. When it runs is there an SES light? It appears theres a great deal of mis matched parts. I take it the motor is now an L98 with an L98 cam. (TPI 350's had same cam as the F -Bodys) Are you running a MAF setup or Speed density?

Might try another memcal and chip.
If you're using the ECM and harness from an 86, what are you doing with the cold start injector? You may want to unhook that if you're running a chip for an 89.

How are you getting 80 lbs? You should not see that unless you pinch off the return line.

Adjust it down to 45psi, get the stored error codes as mentioned above, and report back.

HYPERTECH p/# 128922 / 1989 chevy camaro 5.7L V8 vin8
no codes, can not make my computer go into diagnostic mode
as for the fuel PSI, the screw is to long and hits the bottom of the top intake. pulling the intake off and replaceing screw with shorter one, to get that flue PSI down.

any ideas about the computer???

Well, I think I would run a bin file for the 89 like the ARAP, and disconnect the cold start injector, and disable the VATS.

You're pretty much past the limit of anyone's ability to help remotely...time to troubleshoot.

You may have missed a ground in the bundle at the rear of the cyl head(s), may have a fried ECM, or something else.
