12 second 5.7 tpi

hey guyz whats up. i am totally new to the tpi world. i have had 2 mustang gt's and i am thinkin of switchin to a tpi f-body. anyways i was at the drag strip last nite and my friend with a supposedly bone stock 5.7 tpi with 700r4 and 95,000 miles ran a 14.66@88. we all thought that was pretty good. believe it or not his car actually got a lot of attention even though it was stock, compared to all the other cars there. then some guy came up to us and we got to talking and he said he loves 3rd gens and that the 5.7 tpi with a good cam and a stealth ram can run in the 12's. i wanted to know if this is true!!!!? it sounds really like a longshot but its worth a try. im am gonna have around 1500 $ to spend on performance parts for my tpi. its gonna be my DD with track nites 2 or 3 times a month. are 12's possible on this budget? thanks guys

150 shot of NOS for $500.00, slicks for $300, Full Exhaust System $700 and that will be 12.70 - 12.99 @ 108mph for sure.

or like hes says through a good set of heads...afr, trick flow, a nice cam, the 224-230 goes very well with a stealth ram. this will put you over your budget a bit but its the combo the guy was talkin g about that will hit you 12's. hope this helps.

i figured the vortecs would be the best bang for the buck (! DONT FLAME JUST YET GUYS!!) do to his suggested budget. but c'mon guys we all now cars are like drugs you allways wind up spending more than you wanted and feel like **** the nextday. but if he could find a majority of the stuff used ...headers ,exh ....maybe heads.... hell theres a guys selling an LPE 219 cam right now, i saw an SLP TOL exh on here today.... see what i mean i know theres a guy selling and LT-1 intake with some extra stuff , and some one else is selling a used spray kit and thats all with out leaving the site. i truthfully feel it will wind up being more like 2k tax tag and title but 2k for 12's aint bad....

14.66 @ 88 mph is not a realistic time. Trap speed should be about 93-94, although mine traps at 92 and does about the same time.

Heads, Cam, StealthRam = 12s

A cam, good set of heads, HSR system, exhaust will net you 11's. Lots of people here have them. I have a 383 with a HSR on and its in a truck and its a 12 second truck so with a stall.

The mod's in my sig got me 13.8's. Add 125 shot and went 12.8's with 1.73 60's. Best mod to start with is a stall conveter, then exhaust, intake mods, etc....

there are tons of 12 second combos. do a search for TPI parts, cams, heads, and all the components

stock heads dont flow well so your gonna have a hard time gettin that into the 12's. it can be done tho.

for a cheap combo, vortec heads, 600bucks for the pair... vortec stealth ram if you can find it--600-700 bucks for everything. mild cam with a good converter and gears should crack 12's with abit of tuneing to the chip. bigger cam will need alot better tune but will easily do 12's.

First off, its good that you converted over.
Second, its definately possible to put one in the 12's for $1500, i would definately incorporate some nitrous in with my plans if i were you.
