Injectors, Fuel Pump, Wiring, kinda long...
I have an 88 Camaro Z28 305 TPI that I just bought not running.
The car won't start unless sprayed in intake and here's what I have checked and found:
Fuse box had 3 blown fuses, couldn't tell what they were, the writing is gone, also the box has some melting going on a few of the fuse spots, one was so bad I couldn't put one back in, but that one was not in it to begin with, the manual I have didn't match the box so couldn't tell what is was for?
I bypassed the fuel pump wiring to a 12V source and the fuel pump fired and sounded good and plenty of pressure at the valve, don't have a fuel pressure gauge to fit yet so I don't know the psi.
I don't have fire at the injectors, tested with a multimeter and no voltage when turning the motor over?
There are a few cut wires under the hood by the battery and near the firewall pass side, they also hooked up an adj. switch for the fan...
I bought a manual but it was an old one and it doesn't have a diagram...So where could I get a good colored diagram of under the hood and inside car or the fuse box? Also where does the injectors get it's signal, ecm and distrib?
Thanks

Best investment of $120 you will EVER spend on the car if you are having wiring problems. It is so detailed I think with enough new wire I could make one from scratch. he he Seriously get one and you'll be golden.

by the battery is the fuse for the ecm/fuel pump. without it, all the engine will do is crank. i elieve the color of the wire was orange. the fuse holder was mounted on the fenderwell beside the battery.

you will get fuel via the injectors and power to the ecm so it will run the motor.
are you talking about fire to the plugs? this fuse allows power to the ecm which pulses the injectors open.

come on man! get a new dash from the junk yard. If the fuse box is melted where are you gong to go from there. My advise id fix the problem you have found before you get the car started and have a big bon fire party because you did not have the peice of mind to fix the problem right in front of you.

I second the new dash wireing including the fuse box. What ever caused that to melt in the first place may come back again and burn the whole car. I've seen several cars written off cause of a fire started in the dash or fuse box area. Usually it is caused by someone being in there hooking up something new or "repairing" something. Some folks are butchers and have no clue about electrical principals. When those damaged parts have been replaced, it will likely repair your other problems.

Thanks guys!
87zjeff Hit the nail right on the head, thanks man!
There is a 2 pole connector near the battery and the front of the motor there are several cut wires there and several connectors that don't plug in to anything including a cut blue fan wire and a orange wire that went to a brown wire that was cut and didn't go to anything on both ends.
The 2 pole orange and black, the orange wire had a small stripped spot on it and I touched it to the battery positive and heard the relay click. Got a freind to turn it over while I held it and it started and ran GREAT!
I do agree on replacing the fuse box but I'm just assessing the car at this point to see if I want to keep or sell. I have a tranny prob but will post another...
