i installed a accel afpr with the new diaphram and it seams to be leaking abound the mounting holes, about how tight are the screws supposed to be? anyone else have this problem?

 

sounds to be loose. - is it an aluminum housing? if not, does it have the little ring that reinforces where the screws go?

 

the original accel model i guess had a ring, this is a newer design, there is no ring, and it seems to be aluminum

 

be sure its on there flat and it shoudlnt need alot to tighten them down.

 

If you want to take it back apart you can take the housing and with a very fine piece of sandpaper/emery cloth lying on a flat surface rub the housing back and forth untill the crosshatch shows it is flat. Sounds like you just needed to tighten it somemore.

 

ok this piece of junk is pissing me off, if i tighten these bolts any more they are gonna snap, i broke 2 security bits already, it's still leaking

 

You'd better remove it an flatten the surface as suggested. It shouldn't take more than 15 inch-pounds to fully seat the spring can and seal the diaphragm/gasket.

If you keep tightening and break screws, you'll be removing it anyway, and it will be a lot less fun when you do.

yeah so i sanded this piece of crap smooth, it still leaked, tightened the bolts and one ****ing snapped, nice....

i cant belive no one has had a problem with these leaking out the bolts.

 

Do you know how old the diaphram is? Its possible the thing is drying out and splitting allow your fuel leakage.

 

Would it be possible to add a little teflon paste to the bolts? Might work.

 

this is an accel one, came with a brand new diaphram, i was thinking of teflon, i just dont know though, i dont want to have any fuel problems, maybe i'll send it back to summit and get a holley and see what happens, now i need a new screw, assuming i can get the broken one out of the fuel rail

 

ok update, i got the screw out very easily so i'm happy about that, i put the stock diaphram in with 5 bolts just like i did the accel diaphram, i ordered some screws but i was eager to try it, and walla no leaks, the accel diaphram doesnt look bad, i should be okay using the sotck diaphram with the accel housing correct? also i let the pump run for the 2 seconds and got 43psi of pressure about 45-60 minutes later it said about 31psi is that normal?

 

Good deal. Its not uncommon for the fuel pressure to leak down. It should take a fair amount of time though. An hour to drop 10-12 psi isn't to bad. Keep an eye on it. See how easily it refires in the morning.
