Throttle Body question

well ive done a search but am still a little confused cause i saw so many different answers. Heres the deal. Im gonna put an HSR on my 350 and i need a throttle body cause i sold my stocker tpi stuff. My car is a '91 so it is SD. my question is, will it be ok to use an aftermarket accel throttle body from a MAF car. is the only difference the throttle cable attachment or would i need to make other mods?

Well I am not really sure but since know one else replied I will take a shot at it. I have an Edelbrock catalog that sells throttle bodies for 85-88 tpi cars, and 89-92 tpi cars. Since the 89 cars are MAF and the 90+ cars use SD it looks like it would be ok beacuse they are both under 89-92 cars, that includes MAF and SD.

I've read (dont remember where I read it) that you can use '85-'88 TB on '89-'92 systems but not the other way around; I'm not sure if this would still hold true when using the HSR as they only have one plenum design.

after owning both, the only difference I know of is the throttle cable. The later-models have the progressive linkage, and the older models have the straight hook up.

I would just order the correct throttly body. In your case the 1989 to 1992 cars. The above are correct in that the throttle cable attachement is way different. Why pay extra for a throttle cable and the pain to install it? While you are at it might as well get the 58mm version for you HSR.

Isn't the TPS non-adjustable in the later models?

On the 1990 and up models (read MAP cars) the TPS is non-adjustable unlike on the 1989 and earlier models. You can bend the tab for adustment or buy the earlier style sensor. If you get the older model don't forget to factor in the price of a different throttle cable and the installation.
