I recently pulled my tpi apart again to swap injectors. Ive been struggling with a surging idle and running rich. When i pulled the rail and injectors there was an explosion of fuel, the pressure was so great i could put my finger over the end of an injector and hold air pressure in it and release it. It has never had this much pressure when i pulled it before. Im wondering if anyone can give me some insight here, i would love to solve this. It was throwing a code 44 and 21 i don't think it has done it recently though.

anyone? Would a clogged fuel return line do this.

Did you relieve the fuel pressure before removing fuel related parts?

No, but this is probably the 4th time i have pulled the fuel rail and it has never had even close to this much pressure. Also by the time i pulled the rail/injectors the car had prolly sat for at least an hour.

A good fuel system will retain fuel pressure for perhaps several hours.

I have installed a fuel pressure gauge with a 1 - 1/2 foot length rubber hose and tied it down so it wont bounce around and so I can read it easily. Also, there is a bleeder button. Whenever I work on the fuel system, I use the bleeder button,,, no more squarts of fuel, just drops.

Yes, of course, my fuel pressure gauge is a perminent part of the engine bay, but I can remove it if needed elsewhere. I strongly urge you to buy a good gauge. Check out Summit Racing or Jegs.

The fuel pressure is the first thing to check when there is a stumbling, starting, hesitation, and/or idle problems with your EFI engine.

Doc, where is the bleeder button located?

On the shank below the dial gauge. I will check a few sites and see if I can find this gauge for you guys.

I thought you meant that the bleeder button was on the fuel rail somewhere. Info on the guage would be great, as I havent bought one yet. Thanks.

I checked about 4 different places and only found one description of a fuel pressure gauge with a relief valve at Year One, part # FG78.

I found an Actron gauge at Sumit with a bleeder button on it. 38 dollars and change; Advance Auto should be able to get them, as they carry Actron also.

I looked thru 574 products on the Summit Racing site for "fuel pressure gauge" and they did not have this one, at least not the correct picture. BTW: the one I have has an 18" hose.
