well, i just bought the MSD distributor for the EFI, and am sending it back, car is less responsive and slower, while it's pretty, it isn't functional.

as for the MSD6 box, there is a plug-in cable that works for the external HEI coil.

msd has a nice direct fit coil too,

on her 88 formula she also needed the tach adaptor from MSD.
some cars needs it, some dont

you might also want to look into the MSD noise filter for the MSD box.
i may wind up putting that on her car too, as it seems with the amps it can pick that up.

outside of that, you might want to index your plugs, and play with the gap range and timing settings too. her car loves 10-12 initial timing. that is all trial and error.

you wont get a massive seat of the pants feel using the parts, unless you have other mods that it will help compliament.

it does add some more efficiency though, and the 'ole cool factor of having a bug zapping type of iginition.

i have msd boxes on all of my cars, and it seems to benefit carb'ed applications better.

you can search summit's website for all of the parts and prices.

i typically use msd stuff when it's time to replace broken pieces, thats when you can really feel it. if you are functioning now, don't expect a huge improvement (unless you count start up as a huge improvement)

I've heard terrible things about the MSD dizzy. Can't see a reason to get one much better than stock unless you've got some MAJOR HP.

....I've got an MSD coil, superconductor wires and the 6a box. Other than that, the only purchase required was the harness which I HIGHLY recommend. Once the box was physically mounted, the harness hook-up took only minutes.

I've heard the MSD box can find the weak spot in your ignition, and my 150,000 mile dizzy died within' a few days of hook-up. The new OE replacement has about 2000 miles and shows no signs of problems. I felt no seat of the pants power gain, but start-up was quicker, and throttle response felt better/smoother.

So what you are saying is all you really need is the box, the harness connector? I can just keep my old distributor and tach/bat hookups? How does this box work in conjuction with the ECM and fuel injectors??

IMHO you need nothing. Stick with the stock system as it works just fine. It is good for 6000 rpm.

I run the MSD 6AL and just picked up a 6BTM there is a connector that is plug and play it will connect your stock harness to the 6AL then right to the Coil....

The purpose is to give you an extra 20 degrees of spark which does help out....Maybe not the stomp on the pedal and feel it in the seat of your pants but they do help...plus it makes starting a little easier when the car is hot....I also recommend getting some MSD Wires and some Bosch Platinum plugs gapped at .50.....The Stock coils on our cars are already pretty beafy so not required to get the upgraded coil....But thats up to you.

with the coil wiring harness, it's really just wire the pos,neg on the box and then hook up to the coil with the wiring kit
real easy to do

plus with that wiring kit, all you have to do is disconnect it and reconnect to the coil the way it was stock

you don't have to replace the distributor, the stock is fine, i learned that the hard way. that msd replacement one is a POS
pretty looking, but a POS
