Antifreeze disappearing!!!
Since I swapped my cam out, about a month ago, I had been running extremely hot! Well, the guage still reads around 160 or below, but underneath the hood seems to be extremely HOT!! Hotter than I recall prior to swapping cam, to the point where I can't even touch the throttle body to give it a little gas, or even check the oil because the dipstick tube & everything surrounding is burning hot!! Hmmm, I have an edelbrock water pump, if that fact is relevant, and a 160 deg thermo. I am constantly refilling the "Over flow" container with anti freeze but there are no leaks on the floor, nor do I see smoke to call for any burning! The oil is clean, so its not going to the pan. Considering all in mind, is it possible that the antifreeze is burning internally?? Thanks for any info provided!

How long have you been adding antifreeze to the overflow? How much do you typically have to add?
By the way, how is that 160 stat treating you. I've heard good and bad regarding a stat that low without a prom. I'm about to get a highflow miloden pump, a 180 stat, and a lower temp fan switch to help cool things down a little.

After filling it to the "Hot" line on the overflow jug on initial start up from my new camshaft, I had added an additional 2 gallon jugs, maybe a quarter jug at a time for the past 2 weeks. Pending on when I drive it cuz I don't drive it often. It ended up being nearly every 100 miles of drive time. I do have a prom in the ECM which is based around a 160 deg thermostat. It treats me real well. It was 97 deg in good ol' Milwaukee, WI with a heat index of about 107 this past weekend and I was out city driving
where it reached the 220 mark on the guage with my A/C crankin. I turned the A/C off and rolled the windows down and it cooled down pretty quick to 160-170ish on the guage. Member

Do both of the fans come on when you turn the AC on??
I would look there first. that would explain the AC thing.

Sounds like an effective set up. Maybe I'll consider the prom if my cooling plans don't work out. Sorry man, but I don't know what's happening with that antifreeze. No external leak and nothing in the oil, I haven't come across such a problem as of yet.

If you see no external coolant leaks, it could be a Head Gasket leak. The coolant seeps into the combustion chamber and burns with the air fuel mixture. Do a pressure test on the cooling system and it'll show you if the system is holding pressure.
Also, is your Edelbrock water pump a ccw flow pump which the serpentine belt setups need? Did you install the Edelbrock waterpump before or after the camshaft install?

How can't you? Its a small block Chevy. Instead of my double roller timing chain assembly, I put in a gear driven assembly. 1 gear on the crank, one on the cam and two idler gears in between.
