The IAC is held in by two torx screws. T-20 or T-15.

No dood, that's the TPS. The IAC needs a big *** wrench. What size? Thanks.

Yeah, you can't really use any other wrench other than an adjustable wrench.

You mean like a crescent wrench?

I used a 1-1/4 inch sensor socket with cutouts in the side. With the cutouts to clear the side of the TB, I was able to get it on and turn the IAC about 1/8 turn at a time. Took about 5 minutes but eventually it was backed out enough to turn with fingers.

My IAC was totally grunged and caked with black stuff. I cleaned it off with paint thinner. But now I see that the pintle is totally frozen in place. It won't move at all, no matter how hard I push or pull on it. I thought that I should be able to pull the pintle out of the body for more cleaning, but that's not gonna happen. So, I need a new IAC?? I take it the pintle should be able to be moved by hand?

Yup, a crecent wrench. You shouldn't have to crank on it too much with a wrench. Just knock it loose then turn it the rest of the way with your fingers. Paint thinner may not have been a good idea. Any kind of liquid will mess up any sensor. That black stuff is carbon and is common to get into the IAC. You should be able to pull the pintle out and push it in. You basically have to wiggle the pintle with your thumb while holding the IAC in your hand to get it back in and wiggle it while pulling to get it out. You probably definetly need a new one if it isn't doing anything. They are some where between $50 and $60. Try rockauto.com if you end up buying one. They are a great site for parts like that.

Thanks for the info, Zep. I've looked at the RockAuto site a few times. The problem is though, mailorder delay. If I order one today, it won't be here until next week, which means if if I want to go somewhere in the meantime, I walk. If I have to buy a new IAC, I want to go to a parts house that has it in stock so I can put it in that same day and get the durn car running again.

This pintle won't budge.

Or you could just go to a parts store like you said....LOL. Sorry, I'm living in Germany so I have to order all my parts. I'm just used to doing that. It's not like there's a Pep Boys or an Auto Zone down the street.
