Hi,
The cold air intake doesn't have anything to do with the airdam and cooling system.
The cooling system is designed to rely on the airdam to direct air to the radiator when the car is moving. I'd suggest you don't remove it, or your engine will probably overheat.
Not being a Camaro guy myself, though I'm sure some will chime in, I believe your stock air intake is already a better design than the SLP, and it has the potential to be even better than it is. I'd think the SLP intake is better designed to replace a stock Firebird intake.
If you look around the site, you'll find tech articles and topics about how to simply modify your stock intake to make it much better... and for a lot less money than an SLP.

I have installed the SLP cold air kit on my '88 Trans Am. FireBoyd is right, it has nothing to do with the air dam, that is for airflow to the radiator at speed (it does nothing under 40 mph, but it it's not there, you will run very hot over 50 mph)
Cold air kit is primarily designed to breathe cool air from the rt. front fenderwell, all OEM intakes breathe hot underhood air. On a stock engine it will get a few HP, but on modified engines it will make more difference.

The kit is worth the $$$. Otherwise, you are stuck with the stock placement sucking hot air from the radiator in a closed up cannister.
I had the SLP CAI on my old Formula and showed a noticeable difference when the under hood temps got warm versus the stock set up.

Hes talking about an Iroc....not a Firebird.
LOL.....all Firebird owners know the stock intake sucks! Oops.....doesnt suck I mean.
But I actually like the stock intake set up for the 3rd gen camaros. I didnt know SLP made one for them. Does it look like the 4th gens?

I would take the SLP CAI setup over the restrictive Camaro setup anyday.

Worth it is a figurative term.
For a lot less you can make an almost exact duplicate of the SLP setup and save about $150. It uses the stock 90-92 TPI Bird TB to air filter duct.
I like the fact that it picks air up from the fender area instead of the front/radiator.

I like the SLP CAI box location into the fender also because that area is much drier than the Camaro location.

is there any data showing what a stock camaro TPI intake flows, what the Camaro intake flows with K&N filters and modification, and what the SLP intake flows? I'd rather see some numbers than guess at what flows more by just looking at them.

The SLP box pulls the air from the fender well where there is no hot air.
