Headers out of the way???
Really stuck on a problem, and its almost causing me to light a match under my iroc. I have a 87 305, and im trying to get the heads off. I just pulled the headers off, but it does not give me enough room to get to the head bolts along the bottom.
I tried using a pry bar, but I can only get the headers to move back about an inch. How do I get the headers away from the block enough so that I can get to the bottom head bolts. Its hot outside, and im getting frustrated. Im sure there is an easier way to do this? Thanks guys.

Very slowly and painfully :-)
Cut/bend/torch a wrench as neccesary to fit the application and give it a special spot in your toolbox.
Its just how it is.
I have a cut down wrench that I use and about 2-3 other 7/16 ones with varying degrees of backsweep and angle on them.
I use all of them at some point on the back bolts.

Yes its a long and painfull process. Sometimes you can only turn those bolts 1/4 at a time.....theres just not alot of room. Like 3.8Transam said. I even have a special wrench I grinded down to fit on my header bolts in the tight spots. Even the spark plugs arent fun to get to after I put my headers on. I have the ceramic coated headers so at leats it cools down quick. Best way to get those is from the bottom side. I'm gald we have a hoist, my car has been up and down more time then I can count. Because once you get headers....we all know you have to tighten them up every now and then. Good luck and let us know if you got them off.

Yup. found this out the hard way. Had to remove them from the collectors, and it made it easier. I had use a different ratchet, extension, and length socket for just about every bolt. Thanks guys., and Ill be holding off on lightinh that match...
BTW..does anyone know where to post introductions? I just bought my car, and would like to properly introduce myself, and my car on this forum.

You know what also helps is buying a good set of header bolts! My brother in law had a set of chrome ones that had 12 points, so I could use a 12 point wrench. It made things alot easier to work on.
